Hmm. When I'm standing beside the pump in the cold, all I want is my gas.

I could see if it took a while to pump gas but since I worked at Esso for a while I know it won't quite work. When things get busy trying to get people their gas as fast as possible is the main goal. It only takes a couple minutes to pump and even when it isn't busy I'm sure people would rather get on their way than spend extra time at a gas station.

Not sure if it'll work for you but heres a little trick to get your gas pumped faster - when you're pumping your gas on one side of the pump walk over to the other side of the pump and get it ready to pump as well. Say you want $20 of regular - get it going and then walk to the other side and pick up the delie and press the regular button. The pump will think it's going to have to pump from that side as well so it doubles what it can pump. That excess goes to the pump that is actually pumping and you get your gas pumped twice as fast as you normally would.

Now I don't really suggest you do this on your own but if you're just standing there and in a hurry ask the atendant (if it's full serve) if you can try it... otherwise they might get a little weirded out if you try it.

a gas pump powered by Windows CE, which the company envisions as a terminal you can use to download music files, watch videos or download and print coupons while you fill your car.

Like it takes long to put say $20 or $30 into your tank these day at $2.50 a gal.

Yeah, careful with it though. They might give you **** for trying it or it occasionally starts to fill the hose with gas and will actually show on the meter that you've pumped a few cents. As an employee I did it all the time but as a customer I'm not sure where you'd want to draw the line. Use your discretion ;) It was very handy for when you had a truck come in and need like 30 or 40 gallons.

This Ovation pump has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever heard of. Hell, how about putting a computer in each stall of a public restroom so I can check my e-mail while dropping anchor.

    michael, thanks for the tip!

Some Shell stations have the little TVs on them that basically just show ads. That's entertainment enough - something that showed little commercials, or even just a radio station, at least it's something I guess. Anything interactive or that could even be too interesting is a bad idea, it'll just slow things down and cause problems.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
