SL2xxx tweeter compatibility consensus

Is there a consensus on whether an SL2000 is a suitable replacement for a fried SL2500? The dimensions and mounting centers seem to be the same, but how about efficiency and crossover point/slope issues? Slight audible differences don't concern me as I'll be replacing the tweeters in both speakers, which as far as I can tell are Series 2 Monitor 5s from the early '90s. Thanks in advance for any knowledge and/or opinions!

Ummmm i don't know if the sound quality would be the same or not.. what i would do. Call Polk customer service and get the silk replacement tweeter. it'll sound better, from what i've been told. screw the SL2000 or even the SL2500 and go with a new replacement. free shipping too, if you tell them you are a Club Polk member. .PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Thanks -- I already know about the offer and might well go that route depending on how things unfold. That said, second-hand SL2000s seem to be quite plentiful and usually at less than half the price of those spiffy improved replacements, so I'd just like to know if they're suitable as substitutes for SL2500s. -

Go with the silk repalcements from Polk. Anything else and you'll always be thinking that there is a better replacement for very little additional money. At some point in the future you'll probaly bite the bullet and upgrade to the silks. You have vintage speakers and this small investment is worth getting the new silks! My friendly $0.02.Carl

All's well that ends well -- I acquired two SL2500s for a song by winning a working pair of "M4.6 Series 2" speakers and convincing the seller to ship me just the tweeters to save big on the shipping. The Monitor 5 Series 2s sound pretty nice so far (just a couple of hours), and my old SAE 2900 preamp does have a parametric EQ that can tame any peak that proves bothersome. Are there any known ones that afflict the SL2500 and/or this particular speaker model? Thanks for the tweeter compatibility help and in advance for any further hints!
