Sub power on

With my velodyne dls 5000 I notice lately that it does not auto power on. With it hooked into my pre amp when amp is powered on the sub would turn on also. Now I have to power on by it self. I also noticed tonight that it powered off while amp was still on. Can this be corrected. I have not changed any wires or switches, this as I have said just started. Thanks Doug

I recently had the same sub but returned it just cause I thought I could spend the 800 bucks better. I was pretty impressed with the sub but I noticed this same thing. The auto on feature definitely seems to be flawed. I needed to have my volume up high in order to get it to turn on, it may or may not turn on at regular TV or background music listening levels. For me it was annoying but I returned it anyways. Maybe if you used a Y cable to use both the R&L inputs to give it a stronger input would help, although I didnt try this myself. Or maybe the Polk method hookup using the speaker inputs. Other than that I think that is just how the sub is since I have read similar experiences in other reviews of the sub. Good luck.

Some subs just seem to be quite sleepy. The y-splitter should help but other than that not much will. (other than of course turning it up a bit more)

If you know you will be doing some low level listening you could just flick it to on, but it might be an annoyance.

Hey gary this is strange. I kind a like the feature of it turning on and off. How do you have your's hooked up. Mine is on auto and hooked right to the pre amp, no split. Last night it shut down by itself while I was watching a show. I sent an email to velodyne. I would like to know if there is another hook up availible.
Don't get me wrong I am happy with it's proformance.
You know I just got my sunfire remote programmed, I should say my college son did it. It works great. Now this had to happen. There is always something. Get back to me if you can. Thanks Doug

You both have different preamps / receivers so that will change the experiances between you two. Gary's receiver might have a higher output on the sub out than you do with just regular preouts on your pre...

You are stuck with a fixed output and only using the volume control on the sub to calibrate things right? This is where you and gary have differences... gary can control the output going to the sub with his receiver and then also control the output of the sub at the actual sub. Basically he probably has more power in the signal going to the sub but he has backed off on the gain on the sub amp more than you have.

I'm not quite sure what you can do to keep it from turning off other than to just flick it to on...
