Hey hope I'm in the right place to ask this. I currently own some Rti10's for my front speakers, Fxi3's for my rear and a Cs2 center channel. I'm useing a Sony 150 watt 12" sub untill I can go pick up a polk. These speakers are hooked up to a sony 100 watt per channel receiver STR K502P. First will I damage my speakers under powering them and what or how many watts should I put to them to make them sound better. I'm looking at the Denon 4806 receiver will this be enough or will I have to pre amp this. Or can I still use my current receiver and amp it and get GREAT sound out of my AWSOME Polk speakers. My dvd player,Plasma tv and all components are all hooked up with monster cable brand wires and the speakers are hooked up with monster cable also. Any help with this would be Great and I would like to THANK YOU in advance.

    welcome to the forums.
yes you stand a higher chance of damaging your speakers by underpowering them.
yes the Denon4806 will provide plenty of power to run your setup with.
I suggest getting a sub that isn't Polk- something from Velodyne, SVS, HSU, or Outlaw.
    Your monster cables are fine.

Hey thanks for the quick response. So under powering can hurt my speakers. That stinks why do they tell you from 20 to 300 watts will work then. And what about a pre amp on my current receiver,or is it just no good. What wattage should I put to my Rti10's to get the best sound. Thanks for help and sorry about so many lame questions.

Your current receiver doesn't have pre-outs to get a separate power amplifier.

You would be better off getting the Denon 4806. That will give you plenty of power in it's own right & you would have pre-outs to get a separate amp if you decide you need more power for your speakers!

The Denon 4806 is an option, but for that kind of money you can get an excellent pre/amp combination (like the Outlaws), have more power which the RTi10's will appreciate, and still have enough cash left for a beast SVS subwoofer...

    Welcome!!

Unless you are looking for THX xertification, go for the Denon 4306 or like HTrookie said, separates.

Thanks Louhamilton I do like the THX certified. And also the 4806 has a real good built in amplifier that is suppose to be a big difference between alot of the Denon models. That is what the guy at Tweeters is telling me. It sounds good hooked up in the store. Or can someone tell me the real difference, He is not just trying to get me to spend more money. What do you think?

I think I read somewhere that the Denon 4306 uses the same amps, they just did not put it through the official THX certification process (it costs $$$), hence the lower cost (with other minor differences).

Others may also have opinions on this. Personally, I don't buy into the THX certification thing. There are plenty of products that perform just as good if not better than some of the THX products out there.

Also, keep in mind that there are two levels of THX certification: THX Select 1/2 (small - medium sized rooms or 1800-2000 cu. ft.) and THX Ultra 1/2 (Large rooms or larger than 3000 cu. ft.). BTW, Cu. Ft. is calulated by HxWxL.

Keep in mind that I am NOT trying to sell you against THX, just letting you know that it may not be the cat's meow.

    Good luck!

Just found this forum after I picked up a bunch of upgrades for my system. Got a good deal on some Monitor 70's, a CS1 center and a PSW10 sub. Then I added a Harmon/Kardon AVR240 to help round out the system. Right now, my surround speakers are Energy XL-26's and I'll be curious to see if those need to go or can stay for awhile (while I rebuild the checkbook! )

I'll probably have some dumb questions in the next few days about hookups. Already found some great info and that's been a big help so far.

    This is gonna be fun....
