Polk RTi8s

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, but have been lurking around for a while trying to learn as much as possible. I'm at the early stages of putting together a system for music and movies (50%/50%) and was looking at the RTi8s for the front stage. My room is approximately 17' x 15' with 11' high celings and hardwood floors. Anyway, I can pick up a pair of RTi8s in cherry for $450 and wondering if that was a good price (the speakers are brand new). As a side note, my home is pre-wired for sound and I've picked up a pair of TC60i's for the rear fill. I haven't settled on the receiver or sub yet, but looking at SVS for a sub. Any comments are welcome.

wow $450 for a pair of RTi8s is phenominal! Go get em! May i ask where from?

Very good speaker......great price.

If that price is in fact for a pair, I would tell you to jump on them, I love mine, and my room BTW is slightly larger than yours, and my 8s do a great job.

Who has them in cherry for 450.00 a pair?

While I grew up in Chesapeake, VA, moved down here to the mountains while in college, now I have a liquor still in my back yard!

I love my RTi8's, theyre great. Get em for 450 if you can. I got mine for 750 with a free sub then returned the sub to the store and they gave me 200 back so I thought I was getting a steall at 550. Good thinkin on the SVS too. Im looking to get one as well and a new HK AVR.

As Zero said, try to listen to them before you buy; some people (including myself) think the 8's are GREAT for HT, but a bit too bright for music....

Yes, that's a pretty good price if from an authorized dealer.

The speakers aren't from an authorized dealer, they are from a friend of mine who bought them from a guy on eBay. After listening to them, he immediately wanted to make the jump to the RTi10's, I believe mainly because he is not running a subwoofer with them. Like I said in my earlier post, I want to pair the speakers up with a sub, so I thought they would be great for my purposes. HTrookie mentioned that the 8's may be a little too bright for music and I'm wondering what other people's thoughts are? I will be using them for music at least 50% of the time, if not more. Would I be better off looking to the 10s? Thanks!

To be honest, I have no idea what I'm going to run for the center. I heard a lot of great things about the CSi5, but my problem is this: I'm going to have my plasma tv over the fireplace and not quite sure where I can place a center channel? I don't think one would work on the mantel since it is so much higher than the seating level and I don't think I could tilt it down and it look good. On the floor in front of the fireplace would not work for obvious reasons. I was thinking that I might have to go in ceiling for the center? Any thoughts or someone that has a similiar situation?

Consider a center channel amp stand. The only minor inconvenience is that you may have to move it into place every time you use it. Otherwise, you'd have to mount it in your fireplace. :eek:

Yes, get the Csi5.

Yes, for people's tastes, the entire RTi series is a bit on the bright side, especially for music, IMO. The only way to know is to try it out. If you like the sound of your friend's 8's, then you're OK.

That is still a very good price, if you like them, jump on them!

I like my RTi8s just fine for music, as they said, it is a personal taste thing.
As for going to the RTi10, it would have the same tweeter, and would still be as 'bright' as the 8s, so nothing gained. You are thinking just as I did, if you are going to use a good sub, then the RTi10s are a bit of overkill, and money that could be spent on other parts of your system.

Now for the CSi5, I love this center channel, but it is HUGE! The mantle option most likely will NOT work. I helped my father put in his custom HT system (see thread on HDMI Cable Horror), and we had planned on using this center, with a 50" plasma over his mantle. Got the construction finished, and figured out that there was just NO way to make it work. The only option with this speaker was to put it on a stand in the floor in front of the fireplace, and he does use his gas logs, so even this did not work.

In fact, this is how my HT upgrade got started, bought the CSi5 from him for my own use (he went with a RM7302), and one piece led to the next, to the next, and before I knew it, I had blown a wad of dough! lol
