Did you buy it and are waiting for it?
Do you live outside the 49 continental states?
Do you not have the money?

    It says it is available.
I am a fan of Toshiba for some reason, I am not sure why but I do trust them to make a good product.
Perhaps when I change my Dvd player I will go with this one.

I'll probably wait a few months until it comes down to $69.99... This is a good heads up to start looking for the "HD" listing on DVD's.

If it does audio and video as well as proposed, I don't think they will have hard time selling them at this price.

There are a lot of people here that pay $500+ for a good DVD or CD player.

Unless one's TV has an HDMI input, the HD-DVD capability of this player is useless. I'm surprised the price is so low, but they are trying to capture market share before Blu-Ray players become available I guess. Once they do, this thing is dead in my opinion. Toshiba does make good products though.

yea, hd-dvd will be is already dead. Blu-ray will be out soon as well. This thing doesn't even support 1080p. Not that i have a tv that supports 1080p, but my next hdtv sure will, as will the new high def disks.

As long as you don't play any reindeer games on the playstation 3. It will come with a built in blu-ray and SACD player :)

The winner of a format war means squat. Support yourself in the aftermath and don't implode on the loyal, pissed off consumers who supported you from dia uno. (COUGH dvd-a/sacd COUGH)

woo hooo!!! i've been waiting for hd-dvd. it's on the horizon. but i think i'll be waiting for the new units to have the bugs worked out of them. brings to mind the likes of xbox 360. anyway, in time i'm sure there will be a manufacturer that will offer in one unit both blu-ray and hd-dvd. we'll see. but i'd hate to purchase a first gen player only to have an inferior product compared to the second wave of new release machines with more available options.

I was surprised by the Toshiba price. The Blu-ray prices that I have seem have been between $1000-1800. PS3 will probably be $400-500.

I'm just going to wait 12-18 months to see the prices drop.

    How about component video inputs?

Comp vid inputs won't pass for HD or Blu Ray. HDCP(copy protection) won't allow manufacturers to use component video outputs because they "can't" be made to use the protection technology. In reality, they probably could, but they just chose not to.

The only thing Toshiba needs to do is make a 400-disc HD DVD player like Sony has done for standard DVD's (w/ or w/o upconversion).
    Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)
    Center: polkaudio CSi40 (bi-wired)
    Surrounds: polkaudio FXi30's
    Rear Center: polkaudio CSi30
    Sub: SVS 20-39 PC+
    Receiver: ONKYO TX-SR600
    Display: JVC HD-56G786
    DVD Player: SONY DVP-CX985V
DVD Player: OPPO DV-981HD 1080p High Definition Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI
    Remote: Logitech Harmony H688
