Can anyone recomend some new movies to try out on my home theater? Here's what I've got for my top 5.

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. U-571
3. Star Wars Episode II
4. The Incredibles
5. Lord of the Rings, Two Towers

I have a number of other movies. I think so far I've been most disapointed with Apollo 13, think it was just talked up too much.

Any of the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions, Monsters Inc., the dts version of Gladiator, the Matrix, Minority Report. Those are some of my favorites for HT.

    Superman

(edit) btw to coincide with Superman Returns theatrical release in June '06 WB is re-releasing all the Christopher Reeve Superman movies in 2-disc DVD editions, Dolby EX sound and all new digital video that's remastered in High Def.

Most importantly, Richard Donner is being brought in to totally re-do Superman II to coincide with his original version that was hacked to pieces by Richard Lester after Donner was fired by the Salkinds. This will be freaking awesome.

The Diva scene in Fifth Element has always been used for both audio and visual demo's. Bright colors, nice highs, excellent (although not extremely deep) lows.

I, Robot is a personal favorite
Also, War of the Worlds has some great sound.

Just watched War of the Worlds this weekend. Lots of low bass, distorted horns. Can be a real torture test DVD for sound. I'd suggest listening at lower volumes if just using a receiver with LSi's. Had a lot of good ambient sound effects too that had me thinking it was storming outside when it was really just raining. The lighting effects in the movie were unusual. Many lighted scenes had halo effects and overly bright white lighting outdoors. A better movie than I expected it to be.

Besides the ones you listed in your original post, I would also recommend:

    Finding Nemo
Bad Boys II - DTS track
    Pirates of the Caribbean
Harry Potter - Quidditch scenes for surround sound

Blue Man Group "Audio" DVD -DTS track

    Enjoy!

Finding Nemo is always good, lots of continuous ocean noises. STar Wars III is now out... Jurassic Park, Fight Club, any LOTR...

I think most poeple dont think of Shawshank Redemption as a good HT movie but I think it has lots of ambient noises and a wonderful score that is really fun.
