Speaker/sub Hook-up Help Needed

I want to be able to isolate my 1.2TL's and subwoofer for analog playback from my AV receiver for movies. Can I run two sets of speaker wires to the 1.2 TL's (one from the receiver and one from a dedicated 2-ch amp for records? If only the receiver OR 2-ch amp is turned on at the same time, will this work? Or, will this short out the speakers? Sure don't want that!!! :(
Thanks in advance!! :o

As long as both are never on at the same time, I wouldn't worry about the speakers.

I would worry about your amp or receiver. What you are proposing to do, is the same as: directly connecting the speaker outputs of your amp to the speaker outputs of your receiver. While nothing may happen, something might, do you want to take that chance?

I would recommend using a switch box.

Another alternative, is a pre-amp with HT passthrough. You would connect your receiver's L/R preouts, to the pre-amps passthru inputs. This way you would would always be using the same amp on the speakers (and using the preamp as a source switch).

PS. If you want to be like Dr Frankenstein. Two DPDT Knife switches, would work the same as a switch box :D

Thanks. I will try to find some switch boxes. Who might sell these?
