keith, in addition to what Russman said, I actually can hear differences in certain recordings/music better than others. You should be intimately familiar with the music. A favorite piece of music for me is Holst Planets-Jupiter by Karajan (signature) recording which is well recorded and very dynamic piece...much more so than pop/rock music. You can listen at a certain volume level and close your eyes to place the various instruments of the full orchestra on the stage, both sideways, and depth wise. Swap out some cables, and you will hear that the placement of the instruments slightly changed, along with other detail such as how long a triangle rings or the resonance character of the strings........you have to focus on various aspects of sound and listen for differences.

Can you elaborate on why you think cleaning cable connections is more effective than swapping cables. I would also be interested in knowning how you clean the cable connections.
