question for tube veterans about leaving them on

I don't want to get into the whole generic should we leave it on or not argument regarding tubes. My question is a little finer grained than just on or not.
If a person follows the "leave it on" strategy, and the pre-amp is used for 2-channel and 5.1, and when it is used for 5.1 the volume is cranked up to 12:00 effectively making it at full power so the volume is controlled by an AVR......
Is leaving it on at full power with nothing playing worse than leaving it on but turned all the way down?
