fx surrounds with inwalls fronts?

I have a pair of fx3 that I would like to use for surrounds. Problem is I can no longer use my Rti100's as fronts and csi40 center due to space constraints. Would the RC85i match good with the fx3 for fronts and center?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Typically having matching rear speakers isn't nearly as important as having a matching front end. While surrounds do vary on the usage depending on the source, they're utilized MUCH less than front stage and are therefore not as big of an issue to have matched.
You already haev the f/xi3's, so I'd say try them out with your new system and see how they work. If you don't like them, replace them with the matching inwalls and call it a day......
I'd be curious to know how you like the sound of the inwalls when you get them installed. I don't think there are many (if any) that are on the forum that have inwalls so your thoughts post install would be definitely appreciated.
btw, welcome to the forum. Stick around and we'll do what we can to help out (be warned though, we're a sarcastic bunch)comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
What size room are they going in? Brett covered the matching issue, so all I can add is my experience with in-walls.
I've got Polk LCi's, and started out with LC65i's for RF, LF and C in a 14' x 22' room. It was OK, but upgrading the R and L front with three way LC265i's made a huge improvement in sound quality. Polk doesn't have a RCi three way though. The TC265i is a three way, but you move way up in price over the RCi series.

My room is 14x26. I built a proscenium and stage but because the entrance to room is at the very from there is no way to put my towers. Major bummer. Hopefully I wont be disappointed. Thanks for the rec on the lc265i I was wondering if they were significantly better.
Not many reviews out there on the Polk inwalls. I had considered NHT's or Triad inwalls which have excellent reviews, but dont want to ditch the f/xi3's, which I really like. I dont know if mixing and matching brands is such a great idea. -
I know I'm new here, but to my taste, the surround pan is more important to have matched than the front stage. You want your front three to be directional and localized. You want your surround to have similar timbre so they radiate evenly or out of phase in a null zone. So, you can maybe have the front center be of different manufacure/design/timbre (may actually be a stronger vocal anchor), but for the panning of effects, I would want all my surrounds to match my F.Lft and F.Rt
Strictly my opinion and taste.-Ignorance is strength - -
I think I agree. It is either dump the f/xi3's and go all new NHT's or add the LC265i or TC265i's as L/R/C and maybe I could use RC85i as sides in a 7.1 to save a little.
Anybody compared the TC265 to LC265i's? -
I have - the LC is a very nice sounding series of speakers, particularly for music. They will require many $'s of amplification to get the most out of them. For HT, I liked the TC at least as well, and even probably better. Being a bit of a family man, my idle days of just listening to music are over, so I now have TC265's for L/R and TC615's for rears. I will upgrade my center shortly to match, right now it is an old CS-250. I think you will really like the TC265's. Toss in a sub of your choice and you are good to go. I got my TC's on e-bay for $303, but they usually go for around 400 - 475. Be patient. BTW, there is a pair of TC615s with a BIN for 250 - that's not bad.

Dave,
Thanks so much for the advice. I figured the LCs would require lots of power. I think I will go with the TCs. Have a nice sub already, I will take a look at those tc615's.
