I'm going to write an Xrt12 driver - any tips?

Just unwrapped and installed my new Xrt12 toy tonight. Did it under cover of darkness, not sure what wife is going to say when she sees it tomorrow.
I'm going to write an Xrt12 device driver so I can control it via the Home Theater/Automation package that I own. [the company would do it themselves, but they're too busy right now and I don't feel like waiting until March when they'll have time]
Any tips out there for me?

FYI: First draft working, got all commands except GetSongInfo, GetChannelInfo, GetHardwareId, GetAntennaStrength working. That'll probably be done within a week, full driver tested and released by 1/31.
See here for more details; the package that I used also controls my whole H/T and H/A system. [not to worry, it's pretty cheap] http://charmedquark.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6366 -
