It's called CYA and he wasn't ready to back it up....he simply can't as his old school reputation sucks.

We live by our posts in this place, what's stated publically becomes cannon fodder. At that point, anything can happen.

I have no reservations about what I've posted here or anywhere, ever. If I'm proven wrong or have been completely off-base...I don't think I haven't said that I was incorrect or mistaken. It's a forum, it's public, and subject to personal interpretation at any given time.

If these members' that agree with Faster100 want to speak up, seriously, please do...as I encourage you to do so. How are we going to figure out what the order of conduct is without full representation? I am unaware of a Polk Mafia so what's the big deal?

It does seem odd that every time he has some sort of blowout that he's mentioning he has groups of people PMing him about how they support them.

I'm not saying they don't, but just find it odd that no one ever actually speaks up. IMO, if ya can't come out and say it, i couldn't care less what's so important it has to be sent to everyone other than the person that they want to say it about. Kids games........blah

With this I agree 100%. However, at the same time my guess is that even if the fine print was put in standard size, 99% of the population STILL wouldn't read it, simply because they are too lazy to do so.

You can put it in writing but you can't make them read it. And these companies can only do so much hand holding. It is up to us to educate ourselves if we want to be treated fairly.

If people choose not to do so, then they get what they deserve.

This is a statistical reality and is based on an assumption by the CC companies about how many people actually read fine print.

One of the biggest assets of the US economy is our consumer protection laws and infrastructure. I feel that CC companies have been given a bit of long leash in this context and could do with some reining in. We will all be better off. Even the CC companies will end up with higher quality debt and better loss ratios.

cc companies are just like casino's. odds are in their favor. they know their customers will inevitably 'slip' with a late payment or what not and then jack up their interest rates. they know that credit is a form of disease, as is gambling. the two go hand in hand. i'm in the process of getting a home eq. loan to rid my burdens. hopefully i can resist the temptation in the future. got enough polk gear to keep me excited awhile.

Not sure how you interpreted my comment as a "pass the buck attitude". I think we are in violent agreement here, but you completely missed my point. What I am pointing out is the need for simplification and transparency of credit card terms. We also need to regulate how and when terms can be changed. Many of these companies thrive on changing terms and **** undereducated consumers. There are tons of scumbag tricks that CC companies play. Take a look at these links from MSN Money:

    http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Banking/Yourcreditrating/P38051.asp

It's just a statement about what you posted, nothing was directed at you. I must have to include a disclaimer for everyone apparently.

I mean that the whole problem, as Cfrizz pointed out later, is that ppl don't pay attention. I'm certainly not defending CC companies as their methods of market saturation are ridiculous if not unethical, but the consumer always has the power to say N O. The consumer also has what you mentioned, protection, but how many folks do you think actually know that?

    Excellent links BTW.

The "dumbing down" of America. Are we so dumb and lazy that it is now up to the govenment to protect the consumers against themselves? As an industry "insider" I agree that we need to make the information more "user friendly". The existing consumer protection laws are simply a patchwork of knee-jerk regulations that are costing the collective consumers billions of dollars while the vast majority of people they are designed to protect don't know and don't care....until it's too late. In some ways I agree with Mark. I'm not singling out anyone (I understand stuff happens) but too many have gotten in trouble and blame the CC companies or the system when in reality it is simple....it is their own fault. The people who get hit with fees really can avoid them. I know it can be done because in 35 years of borrowing money, paying bills, maintaining checking accounts I have never paid a overlimit charge, never paid a CC late charge, maybe one or two late charges on a bill (I don't recall any but odds are it has happened) and only one overdraft charge (and it WAS my fault because I picked up the wrong checkbook). The big bad credit card companies cannot get you unless you allow it.

I understand there are situations that are beyond our control. I have a nephew born 13 weeks early at just slightly over a pound and the the medical bills ended up at nearly a million dollars. His family had to file for bankruptcy. I understand that people get sick, lose jobs, husband/wife wage-earners die. These types of circumstances are what the debt protection laws should cover. I have little (read NO) sympathy for people who are just overextended due to lifestyle. These people need to get six jobs if necessary to pay their debt.

One last rant. Someone mentioned a Home Equity loan to basically get debt under control. I handle millions of dollars of HELOCs (some as high as a million). I cringe when I see people financing a meal, worn out clothing, etc over 5, 10, 15 or 30 years...and that is exactly what some do when they get a home equity loan to payoff credit card debt. Just like credit cards the HELOC is a good tool when used properly. But for debt consolidation...it is not something I would do personally, but hey....it's their home.

The bottom line is this is not rocket science just simple addition & subtraction. No one should have to be taught common sense.

If you have $100.00 you don't go out and spend $200.00, all because you see something that you just have to have RIGHT NOW.

It's just a matter of self control which the majority of Americans just don't seem to have.

For those of you who had to learn this lesson the hard way, do yourselves & your kids a favor & teach them this lesson so that they don't end up learning the hard way.

If you teach it to them yourselves, they won't have to worry about reading the fine print!

Simple; 1,000.00 divided by 18 = 55.56 a month is your minimum payment. Make last payment before due date, & no worries about 23% interest.

This is precisely how I paid for my receiver, dvd player center & subwoofer. In a yrs time I was done.

Then Tweeter promptly sent me another flyer to buy more stuff! :D

If you do it properly it works GREAT! :)
