wow. Deftech seems to be sticking with their space saving subs. Going up.

I've heard their cubes and am impressed.

No idea how far def tech will go. Can't wait to hear this one.

    Man that is hardly...space saving...

    Its like a rectangular SVS...

    18x18x32 ish... 175 pounds... haha

Its the kind of price point Polk should be trying to get back into, IMO... (On all things)

2000 watts, dual 14" subs and it can only hit 128 db?

    Isnt that a little low?

A 10" car sub can hit mid 130's with as little as 300 watts. Whats the difference?

    Umm Macelod...

Thats TWENTY HERTZ... lol - not 50hz...

Hitting 130 db at 20hz is darn impressive.

You're looking at MASSIVE SPL around 50hz...

Also, comparing a car sub (inside a small cabin) to a home sub (inside a house) is fairly hard to do. You will rarely see above 130db in the home...

    Not really...

The Bottom of the line SVS goes subsonic (18hz tune point) - about 15hz extention in a modest size room.

Every SVS subwoofer model can subsonic.

Is it more the tuning and construction of the enclosure or is it the sub that designed specifically to go sub-sonic?

The enclosure has alot to do with it...

You need a large enclosure for effeciency, a woofer with high excursion, and a nice amp - and yes, the tuning for it to go that low...

Its takes a combination of things to reach those notes. The problem with alot of OEM subwoofers and why they cant reach below 30hz most of the time (POLK!!) is because they use small enclosures and modest amps.

If they want to use a small enclosure and get that response, your looking at TONS of excursions and just a massive amp...

    Gotcha.

Do they make passive enlosures so you can stick the amp on it you want? All the subs Ive seen are self powered.

SVS and Adire make passive subs.

HSU use to, not sure if they still do.

Alot of the times it is just easier to buy a powered sub, because with a passive sub you STILL need a crossover - and preferably one with a phase knob, volume, and crossover.

It's great to have a valuable member like Sid around, otherwise we might forget how crappy Polk is and how great Def Tech is.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

When did I say Polk was crappy?

I dont like the RTi line and their subwoofers.

And if you think I am telling you DT subs are better than Polks, your off - again. In the price range, both of their subs cant hit below 20hz, much less 25hz.

And I am very glad you find me valuable. I was getting worried.
