Be very Thankful this Holiday

I don't normally involve my personal life in CP. But I have a need to get some things out, in writing. This is in no way intended to put a damper on anyone's Holiday celebrations.

The last week has been a difficult week for my immediate family. My brother's GF of 4 years was diagnosed (3 years ago) with stage four breast cancer. Stage 4 is very aggressive even though it was caught early. She has done fairly well over the last 3 years combating this dreadful cancer which also killed her mother at the very young age of 45. Her original diagnosis was 12-18 months to live. She's beat that by a lot and has really worked hard to live an enjoyable fulfilling life w/ my brother. They decided not to get married for financial reasons (possible medical bills). On top of all this she's only 32.

Since Thanksgiving she has been in much pain and last Friday we found out that here liver is almost 75% covered with tumors. As little as 3 months ago it was less than 20%. Needless to say this morning we were all to meet at my parents house to open gifts. Well.....they couldn't make it because she is in so much pain and nausea. They are thinking of admitting her and possibly getting hospice involved. We all knew the end would come eventually, but I must say it sucks that it has to be during the Holidays.

I share this because EVERYONE should take a minute to be thankful for those people in their lives, not just during the Holidays, but every single day. Whether, it be a family member, neighbor, work aquantaince. I don't why it always takes tragedy for the human species to realize this. So, if you have an ongoing feud with a friend, family memeber it may be time to let things go as there are much more important things to life, that being life itself.

My family and I are going to try to move forward and make this a good Holiday even though it has turned out to be extremely difficult so far.

It really puts things in perspective. Everyone have a great safe Holiday and enjoy what you have, right now.

Heiney9 - I'm sorry for the pain your family is going through, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your message is a good one, and highlights what we tend to take for granted in the daily struggle of life. I get to pick up my kids in a few hours and head back to the farm in IA for a few days. I will hug them a little tighter after reading your message. Doug.

Will definitely include her in our prayers. I posted here a few weeks ago with a similar story. The Husband of a very good friend of mine got diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer after just staying home from work several months ago with the complaint of a fever. The long and short is that he got very ill and was in the stage where medicine could do nothing further and he was in a chemically induced coma to reduce the sensation of pain. We all prayed and prayed and he is now doing much better. He's talking now and even trying to get up and move around some.

So I am going to keep her in my prayers for you as I know how helpful they can be. Sorry to hear this has all come about like this during the holidays.
