Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Everyone,
I hope you all get some neat toys for Christmas and some time off to play with them too..

I have recently purchased a pair of RTi28's and a CSi30. The 28's came with broken drivers in shipping, but Polk was great to get me a new pair at a great price. The CSi30 was new in box.. What is the normal break-in time on drivers? I'm noticing an echo type sound especially in voice in the center channel.. Will this calm down and sound more natural soon? Can I adjust my settings (bass/trebble) on the reciever (Denon 2802)? Or is this the nature of this model. I know this line is inherrintly "bright", but I guess I didn't expect voices to sound like everyone is in a tunnel, well, unless they are.. Any suggestion?

Thanks for the sub help as well, it's between the LFM-1 or the PB12-ISD/2 but they are very different beasts at this point.

Thanks!

echo is not the norm. Did you purchase the 28's and the 30 second hand? what kind of receiver are you using because what your posting does not make sense...

Sounds more like an AVR issue than a speaker issue...

Yes, bought them second hand.. The CSi30 was never hooked up I was told. I purchased it from someone on this forum that was going to use it as a rear, but never got around to deciding to install it. It came in original packing with the manual still sealed. I was told it only came out of the box for a visual inspection. I started hearing the anomoly when the Rti28's were down for repair. I pluged my RM6600 sats back in as fronts, the 6600 sat center didn't do this, it very nice and rich, I'm quite pleased with the set-up, but I moved to a bigger space so I thought it was time to upgrade. My bro-inlaw purchaed some small audio monitors and mounted them like sats wow they sounded good, and of coarse my up-grade had to beat his so after on-line research I decided to go Rti28 and CSi30. Could I have room accoustic problems? One wall is open to a large space, back wall is all windows, side wall has a couple of windows, but is generally bare, and the viewing wall is a built-in with the upper part open to a den behind it, and the floor is carpeted.. The speaker is not making any harsh sounds other than the tonal what I would say "echo".. Well I take it back It's not like a heavy reverb, it's just very open sounding. Watched Two Towers and when they were walking outside on the mountain side their voices sounded as if they were talking from the keep in helms deep. In other words like they were talking in a big open room as opposed to an outdoor muted enviroment with sound being absorbed my ground, trees, people horses etc.. It's starting to be a bit anoying.. I run a Denon 2802, could be bigger and better but is no slouch. I'll plug in the small 6600 back in and listen again to see if something has happened, but I suspect it's not the reciever though that would be one of my guesses too..

do you have an spl meter with the avia set up disk? if not it's worth the investment in my honest opinion.

May not be, but when you say "echo" it sounds like a timing issue. Have the distances to any of the front stage speakers changed? Is this adjustable in your AVR?

Speakers shouldnt echo, I dont even see how they could. Sounds to me like it could be a setting on the receiver. Are you using one of those DSP settings like 'live' or 'hall' etc.? Sometimes those can have a really cheap echo-y sound to them. Just go with the normal settings. If this isnt the case then I dont know what could be happening... Hope you resolve it soon.

Great suggestions, thanks! I was hoping to get an SPL/Avia disk for Chistmas -no luck yet a box is coming Mon.,-maybe.. I was thinking maybe the cc is set too loud and calibrating it with an SPL/Avia will help.. It does sound like one of those DSP settings is on, however it's not. I will try to hook up one of the 28's to the cc and see if it's dublicated.. Or even my old RM6600, I will trace the wiring back as well, just to verify.. Again it seems to be only the prodominate voice that I'm having issue with the music seems nice and blends good with the 28's.. ??

I think I have found the main culprit.. My DVD player is a Toshiba SD-V593 and it has Q-sound inhanser, and of coarse it was enabled.. This seems to pre equalize or tweak signal to inhanse it, -probably great for TV speakers but not for an AVR. The bright hollow voices have calmed down and are more natural now that I disabled Q sound. So I'm back to reauditioning my front sound stage all over again, but I'm relieved it was not so much the speaks.. Still need to level everything out and get a new sub..

    -Thanks everyone!
