Jolida 502B int. tube amp / modified by Chris Johnson

First off let me wish everyone a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!
Now for the tough part - letting go of my Jolida. It's been a tough decision to make but let me explain the reason why I'm selling. When I purchased the Jolida back in July it was to power my mains in both HT & 2 channel. At the time it did a superb job on both with my ENERGY Connoisseur C7 speakers which have a 90db sensitivity rating. In steps "UPGRADE-ITIS" that dreaded disease that gets us all. So I start looking for new speakers. The ones's I fell in love with were AAD 2001 monitors. Superb sounding monitors that like tons of power. These monitors are rated at 86db sensitivity, a huge difference over the ENERGY'S. Needless to say my room is also pretty large / 13x32. For my listening needs the Jolida isn't providing enough "UMPH" to drive the AAD monitors & fill the room w/ sound. The superb sound quality is definetely there but not enough power to suit my taste. Hence the hard to do sale. This amp was purchased from Wally at UNDERWOODHIFI.COM. The level 1 mod was done by Chris Johnson the founder of Sonic Fronteirs. Check out the web site for full info. on the mod. Also check out Jolidas site at JOLIDA.COM. I would love to post pics but I am not too computer bright & haven't figured out how to do that yet. If interested I will gladly send you pics of amp along w/ copy of receipt. I paid $1665.00 & will sell for $1350.00 incl. shipping w/ full insurance in orignal box w/ all manuals. I know this is a large purchase & you don't know me from Adam, but to help put your mind at ease I recently sold some vintage B&K gear to Fireshoes, a fellow Polkster. He was very pleased w/ the transaction. This will definetely make one hell of a Christmas gift. Go get the wife's blessing. You know the drill!!! If interested send me a PM.

    $1350.00 seems very high for a used piece of gear that you bought new for a little over $300.00 more. how do you justify asking for what amounts to a small discount over the retail price ? thanks and Merry Christmas to you also....WCW III

    The problem with pricing this unit is that Underwood Wally's price for his mods are inflated. That's because he is not doing the mods himself, so he has to get his cut and pay Mr. Johnson, too, who actually makes the mods in Canada, I believe. So you're paying twice for shipping.

    Pear -- if you like the Jolida, why don't you trade out the speakers and get some more efficient ones?

    No can do. The AAD 2001'S ARE THAT GOOD!!! I'll just have to wait & see what the market bears. Time will tell. Have a great Christmas!

    Pear -- did you get the matching stands with your speakers?

    Are you gonna stay with tubes? Maybe a higher powered Audio Research tube amp will work for you.

    The matching stands are on my list for '06. The combo looks stunning!! I think I'll go SS for this time around.

    That modified Jolida 502 is a fantastic integrated amplifier. I absolutely love mine and see no reason whatsoever to upgrade.

    What kind of tubes come with the unit?

    To me it seems somewhat worthwhile to let someone else take the chance with the mods, burn it in and save a few hundred bucks in the process. I would probably go into detail on the condition since there is not much discount though. Good luck with the sale and Merry Christmas!

    i am always interested in audio gear and i commented based on a general rule of thumb that just like when you buy a new car and drive it off of the lot it depreciates in value quite a bit ,so it goes with audio gear once it is no longer new in a sealed box. i wanted to see if you had a reasonable explanation as to why it was only $315.00 less than a brand new unit.can you please give a short explanation as to how you justify the price that you are asking ? thanks....WCW III

    My pricing is based in info. I received from various audio shops & guys just like us that build audio systems along w/ buying & selling gear as we change. The general concesus is that a quality piece of gear - QUALITY is the key word here, should recover 80-85 % of the purchase price within the 1st 6 months. I definetely put Jolida as a high quality piece of gear. I'm not trying to rake anyone over the coals, just trying to sell a quality piece of gear for a reasonable price.

    And to all a good night!! My son is in bed now & the wife & I need to gather up his gifts & put them under the tree. Have a great Christmas!!

    It sounds like a very reasonable explanation to me. i have been coresponding back and forth with Chris Johnson myself and am seriously considering having him trick out my Anthem Pre1L because i love this Preamplifier and higher quality parts are available now that were not available when the Pre 1L was Originaly built and who better to do the mods than the guy who designed it in the first place ? thanks....WCW III

    Merry Christmas to all!! Yo guys, I made out tike a fat rat this Christmas day. How about you guys? I'm in such a great mood I fill compelled to pass on a little Christmas cheer. The Chris Johnson modded Jolida 502B I am selling for $1350 is now gonna be let go for $1200. I'll still include shipping & full insurance.
