Do I need an amp for my LSi9's?

Okay, I just sold my New In The Box CSi5 on ebay and had to eat about $40 bucks..not too bad. StopherJJ1980 good idea on the "Buy it now" thanks! I apologize if I were a bit over zealous with trying to sell it here on CP, I really didn't know the proper etiquette and I really needed to sell the CS before I could buy the LSiC. I do appreciate everyone who had constructive critisim to give me regarding the topic. Okay, enough of that. I am still in the same boat with my receiver. Right now I have a Yamaha HTR 5990 to go with my current speakers.

Lsi9's front
Lsi-C center (on the way)
Lc 80i rear ceiling
Psw 1000 sub

Several members suggested keeping the HTR 5990 and perhaps using it as a preamp.

question? What brand/ model of amp would be good to drive those Lsi9's and perhaps the center channel as well.

Or would a more powerful rated receiver be a better route??? name and brand would be appreciated.

I would say stick with the yamaha and use it as a preamp. I'm not really sure on what amp would go well with the 9's, but people around here seem to go with brands like outlaw (the $200 monoblocks are popular), nad, rotel, adcom and some others. I'd think that trying to go the seperates route would be better but might be a bit heavier on your wallet (unless you stick with the yamaha as a pre/pro).

I bought the Adcom 5 channel model 7000 used. Haven't had anymore problems. The Yamaha works fine as a pre-amp.

Congrats. Outlaw, Rotel, Parasound, ect. All are good. If you can swing a 5-7 channel amp that would be best since then you would be totally covered & it would save you from upgraditis for more later on! Maybe! LOL

Whatever amp you get, you should not get less than 200 watts!

if you want to stay with the receiver option i HIGHLY recommend the yamaha rxv2600. the htr line that you bought is the "b" line yamaha product, while the "rxv" is the main line. think toyota/lexus. this receiver has many great features, MORE than enough power to drive your lsi system, and while others may recommend the amp/preamp solution, this may be cheaper and you yourself may not be able to tell the difference. i guess it all depends on what you can get back from the 5990. check my sig for what i am running and it performs VERY well. i get compliments all the time on how good everything sounds. the room i have it setup in is about 20 wide by 12 deep. not too big and the system does an awesome job.

at least get amplification to the 9's to start if the budget is tight. can go with used 2 channel amps (assuming that reciever has pre outs.)

As mentioned, the outlaw mono's seem to be a great bang for the buck. 325 each new 300 watts into 4 ohms, not shabby. I will be getting 2 of them used and will post my impressions down the road.

I am a personal fan of Rotel amplification, but there are a lot of parasound lovers out there too. just some names, especially if you go the used route. Try to shoot for AT LEAST 200 wpc into 4 ohms. lots of used listings only have the 8 ohm rating, but if you search online or check with us, you can get the 4 ohm ratings.

for example, I have a Rotel RB980 that is 120 WPC into 8 ohms, but 200 WPC into 4 ohms.
