I believe that test was for the 2002 model. Sounds like Ford fixed the problem.
Update 2: Ford has redesigned the F150 for 2004 with an notable advances with regards to safety. In fact the IIHS had named the new F150 a "Best Pick" in the large truck category. Now granted this doesn't change the fact that Ford designed and released the previous generation of F150s knowing there were safety concerns. Further it doesn't change any of the statistics showing larger vehicles cause more havoc on the roads. But it does show that Ford clearly understood the issues with the previous generation and worked hard to alleviate them.

Just be careful if you have an older model. I don't drive trucks...don't like them...never will.

I kinda figured you would be a truck man Shack-daddy. Larger individuals such as ourselves enjoy the extra room a truck has.

Plus you get to keep in touch with all your friends because all of them will call you whenever they need to move something big and heavy!

I call ****! Im having a hard time believing this story. A F150 has a steel frame with steel I beams running from bumper to bumper yet it crumples up like a tin can while the unibody Mini doesnt?

I was driving my 2000 Ram down the street at about 35-40 mph and a Ford Explorer pulled slap out in front of me and I T-boned the hell out of him. It totalled the Explorerand while it did damage my truck it was nowhere near the amount shown here.

Now I know it was a different circumstance and that the Explorer gave way while a brick wall would not but it seems hard to believe it could have been that extensive.

Another thing that bugs me is that the mainstream media hates trucks and SUV's for several reasons and will gladly glom on to any bad story they can find on one. The fact that they havent made so much as a peep about this is further evidence to me that something could be screwy.

All Trucks, not just the F-150 have had major crash issues. Ford's new F-150 is the first to achieve the level of protection it does (If I remember this corectly). It has to due with the cabin having so little structural support for its size or something like that. So even if the front end doesn't see too much damage, the force can crumple the cabin space pretty easily. And yes, it does make a huge difference if your hitting an object that can move with the crash or a fixed object that won't move. I am pretty sure I got this info from Consumers report a while back. It shocked me, thinking trucks are so big how could they be such death traps. Another thing too, is if you watch trucks on the roads in the winter or heavy rain, a lot of them are going way too fast. I mean, its a truck, you don't have the stopping ability of a small car! But yet they go way too fast for the conditions, and tailgate people to get them to move out of the way. This is why I think you see so many more trucks/SUVs causing deaths on the roads. I think its more driver related then vehicle size related.
