Well, just this morning, the Senate shot down the attempt by Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) to add drilling in ANWR to the defense appropriations bill. Though drilling might be good financially for Alaska, I am one Alaskan who is dead set against it, and I'm ashamed of my senator for using such a sleazy method to try and get it passed. 90% of the north slope is open to drilling, and I dont think there is anything wrong with protecting the last 10%, especially since it sits inside a wildlife refuge. Watch out though, I'm sure Stevens isnt done yet.

Though I may agree with you and think that drilling in the ANWR is not a good idea, I feel that this discussion has the potential to turn into a political debate, and therefore should not be discussed here.

I'd suggest leaving this one alone.

Disagree. If we can have a 10 page 400 ± post on **** marriage (and related topics) then this topic should be allowed. The sides may fall along political lines but it is not necessarily politics. The oil is a national resource just as much as the wildlife. We need to find a way to extract the oil AND protect the other natural resources. It can be done.
