New Owner of Polk RM6900!

Hi guys/gals last night I purchased the RM6900 speaker set while I was going to circuit city to replace my sub. I was planning on going there to replace my sub that was ruined by nature and after the guy at circuit city let me listen to this system I was in love.

Last night I didn't have a chance to run and configure everything completely but there was one thing I noticed on the sub that had me a little concerned. While the sub was on Auto mode and in standby at the time I keep hearing a (thump thump) sound. It was very low but very deep so it was easy to hear. It almost sounded like a heartbeat and sometimes it would slow down and then speeed up. Does anyone know what that could be? Could it be getting some interference from somewhere? I'm headed to Circuit City today to pick up a better subwoofer cable and that could solve it but I just wanted to get some opinions on it because its really distracting.

    Hi, assuming you're using a sub cable, first try disconnecting that sub cable and see if the thumping goes away. Second, try turning the volume knob on the back of the sub to see if the thumping changes with the volume control. If so, then that means the thumping is being introduced before the sub.

    If it thumps when the light is red then that means there is something wrong with the sub.

    Yes it thumps when the sub cable is disconnected. Turning the volume knob or crossover freq doesn't change intensity.

    When the toggle switch on the back of the sub is switched to Off I get no thumping sound

    When the toggle switch is on Auto I get a thumping sound
    When the toggle switch is set to ON I get a thumping sound if no other sound is present.

    So there is no chance what so ever that there could be some outside interference? I'm gonna try moving it around but I hope it goes away because this was the last setup like this they had in stock :(
