This movie doesn't come out until next Tuesday on DVD, but I am definitely going to be picking it up. I'm not sure what kind of social messages the film is going to try and portray, but I do know I don't care either. I've always had a great interest in Alaska in general, so for obvious reasons a story like this is going to intruige me.

The premise of the story is as follows:

"Grizzly Man could easily have been sensational and exploitative, but in the hands of Werner Herzog, it becomes something extraordinary. Herzog was granted exclusive access to over 100 hours of video shot by amateur naturalist, wildlife advocate and troubled loner Timothy Treadwell, who spent 13 summers in Alaska's Katmai National Park, where he grew to know and love the grizzly bears that lived there. He was also killed by one of them, in October 2003, along with his girlfriend Amie Huguenard, and that seemingly inevitable fate informs every minute of Herzog's riveting combination of Treadwell's video with his own expert filmmaking and unique vision of nature and man. Whereas Treadwell was a na

I'll be giving this a rent for sure, not one I'd buy though as I am sure the rewatch factor is quite low.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

    Wouldn't mind checking this out.

Heard it was pretty horrific the way he went out. Though you won't be seeing any of that on the film.

No, but you watch the Director as he listens to the audio. See...I'm hoping this is going to be good, but I'm afraid it may be ther Werner show a little bit too much, that's my only concern.

I have not seen this film, and I might even rent it, but I would never buy the film for fear that some of the proceeds might go to "Grizzly People", the organization that Treadwell co-founded. This group, like Treadwell, is out to lunch when it comes to bears. Treadwell did what he did under the guise of "protecting grizzly bears". Never mind, that he was in a national park where the bears are already protected. The worst thing was how he acted around the bears, getting close enough to touch them, calling them cutesy names, singing to them, etc. The guy was a madman, and every year, people up here in Alaska wondered how long it would be before he got himself killed. The worst part is that, ultimately, he got 2 bears killed as a result of his stupidity......so much for "saving" the bears!

The only thing that has resulted from his "work" is the stereotypes about bears being vicous maneaters has been perpetuated. I hope the movie makes him out to be the idiot he was.

Well, in truth...this woman on Amazon did sum it up best:

"This man was an idiot and died because he was an idiot. End of story."

Despite knowing that, the fact he was an idiot is the reason we have the story. There's lots of stories of complete bafoons and Alaska, they often go hand in hand, and since you live there I'm sure you'd know that. I'm refering to the types that go up there and think they can just brave the wild without any experience. Treadwell truly thought he was on a level above everyone else.

I still have to see this one. :)

Wow....I went to Best Buy tonight and they already had this one on the shelves. There are no spoilers, but all I can say is that at the very least this is almost a dark comedy. I can't really feel sorry for the guy because he clearly asked for what he got in the end. I'm not even sure if it's insanity...probably some sort of delusion at best.

I would recommend every see this one. Like I said...at the very least it will be comedic.
