Yo folks...
My Mom's car has been having a problem with the stock radio for ages.
She has a 97 Corolla - anyways...
The radio cuts out and in, use to - it would hit a bump, then cut back in. Sometimes if you just hit it, it would cut back on.
Then you have to tinker with the power/volume knob to get it to work.
Now, you have to hold the power/volume knob to the side (extreme angle) to get it to work, and if you let go of the knob, it cuts off...
So I am getting there is a loose wire or something that only makes contact again with a little pressure of some sort - thats my first guess...
Any opinions or what it is and how to fix it?
Thanks

100-150 bucks at circuit city when they have free installs going on, pick up a fairly cheap, but good pioneer unit and that should fix the problem. i have never thought it wise to spend money on a factory head unit, especially when you can get a really nice unit for not that much money, and save yourself a lot of headache

I second that. You should look into an aftermarket HU. If the stock HU were fairly nice, new, and sounded like it had simple problem, it'd be a good idea to get it fixed. However, I think you have a few problems with your HU, and it's not nearly worth it to get it fixed. Get a cheap Pioneer, Panasonic, or Kenwood HU from CC and get free installation.George Grand wrote: »

I have a '98 Corolla, and would happily send you the head unit from it. I replaced mine with a JVC cd player. The removal of the radio is very easy. PM me if you want it. It was at my parents house, and they moved, I still should be able to locate it though. If not a new unit would be a great idea. they run specials on installs all the time at BB and CC.
Added note: the wiring harness are great, and simple to install. Crutchfield has a harness hook up kit for almost any car, and they come with very detailed instructions.Main Set-up: 55" 120 hz Samsung LN55B650, Onkyo TX-SR806, Emotiva XPA-5, Emotiva XPA-2, PS3 Slim, Sony BDP-S560, Apple TV (160g), Panamax M5300-PM, Polk Audio CSi5, RTi10's, FXi3's, RTi4's, and SVS PB12 Plus

Sounds like a short somwhere. It could be fixed but as cheap as head units are these days there is no reason too. As was mentioned, Circuit City can slap one in there for ya for $100 or so and it would be a much better one at that.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Either take landry_p2000's offer or go to a junk yard and tell them you need a radio for a 97 Corolla. There are Toyotas all over the junkyards around here. Finidng a working radio should not be a difficult proposition. It should cost you $30 or less at most places too.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Why in hell would you want to waste the time to pay to have a factory headunit fixed that ain't worth a damn to start off with. I'll tell you what i would do if mine started **** up on me. I'd take the son of a **** and throw it just as damn far as i could and run over to bestbuy i buy something worth listening to.
