There is a guy I work with who knows I am into Ht and wants to spend $1300.00 to get a BOSE 321 system. My Seargent is pushing him because HE has a Bose system. Now this guy and I have talked in the past. He has seen my system and we have discussed that he would get my recommendations when he was ready to buy for his new house. I think that he thinks that he can't get anything better for the $1300.00 and in order to do so he would have to spend ridiculous amounts of money( like me )to get a decent set up. He also likes the idea of not having to wire back speakers.

I just can not seem to overcome the Bose marketing machine and my Sarge's praise of his BOSE system. I have recommended the Surround Bar but then he needs a receiver, DVD, etc. Should I just doom this guy to his Bose future or should I try to save his audio soul?

He obviously has not done any research, and isn't into quality audio anyways. Let him buy what he wants.

Just went through the same thing with my boss.

does he need the electronics too, or just the speaker set up?

If he only needs the speakers.. why not suggest he go listen to the SurroundBar.. than plus a kick **** subwoofer. and it would be a pretty decent set up.

My dad want's new noise cancelling headphones for xmas, and unfortunately I think Bose makes the best pair. Sennheiser makes streestyle headphones with noise cancelation, but that's no good for comfort. Sony makes some, but they don't seem to be that high quality... so I may have to go with Bose on this one.

Please read this before you spend $299.00 on Bose HP:

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Sounds right to me. Let him go his own way. You've been talking to him for how long now about HT? And when it comes down to it, now he wants to ignore your advice and perhaps even make brownie points with the Sarge? Wash your hands of it and let him go for it. It's only his loss, not your's.

Head-fi didn't convince me that there is actually a legitimate reason not to buy Bose headphones considering my Dad's needs. For Airplane use I really think they are the best available headphones if you want something that goes over your ear. Personally I hate in-ear headphones, so I don't think I'd buy them for anyone... if you don't like sticking something in your ear they are kind of worthless.

Thanks guys. I printed out some of the info and he said he would research it.
this guy is retiring in 6 months so I don't think he cares about brownie points so much. My Sarge just told him thatof course I was going to besmirch
Bose compared to my system and that he would have to spend what I did to do any better. Hopefully now he can see that is not true. Hell, when I first started this hobby ( way before I knew any better) I was going to get a Bose Lifestyle system!? until I did some online research and saw the light. That was about 3 years ago. I am proud to say that my research has paid off and no Bose product has ever crossed my threshhold.... :D

On the bright side, bose systems have pretty incredibly resale value thanks to their marketing campaign :) My first system was a Bose lifestyle 12... I sold all the speakers / components seperately on Ebay when I decided to buy some LSis, and they sold for far more than I was expecting.

...I had to go out and replace all of my Polk speakers. :( You see, I had gotten rid of them and made what I thought at the time was a huge upgrade to the Bose brand. :o

I then woke up with a startle, soaked in sweat and realized I had just escaped from the most horrible nightmare I'd ever had!

I lived happily ever after. :D
