I was just browsing throught the Local Good Guys and trying to piece together a working Music Hall MMF-5...short story goes like this.

I get a call that the MMF-5 is going for 250.00 so I roll down there and try and try to put just one together, they had 7 of them and they are all missing components. From Cartidges, the glass platter, one of em' was even missing the tone arm. And all but one was missing the power supply.

Anyway I said eff it...

So I looked around, and seen the Maverick SACD player, they had 4 of them and were priced at 599.00. Seems to be a pretty solid build.

Unfortunately they didn't have any material to Demo, and no working Rig to put it on even if there was a chance I could Demo.

Does anyone have any experience with this part. SACD player? Besides just reading reviews, (already did that)..

A guy named Styler on AudioKarma has one and speaks highly of it. I'm sure he wouldn't mind talking with you about it.

Bought a Music Hall 2.1 from them about 6 weeks ago, would have been better off pay full retail online. Missing the anti-skid weight arm and the stylus was bent. I didn't notice either, so the money I saved plus another $20 turned out more then buying it from someone online.

Appreciate the tip.......he raved about it, but then I seen another post later on in the life of the player

"i own a MH Maverick SACD player and it developed a "white noise" problem. it will randomly stop playing music and spew white noise. i called Music Hall and was informed "we have the same problem with our Shanling T200, a wire connecting the laser mechanism to the circuit board is not connected properly."

Wonder if this was a big problem, or just a rare occurence...

Yep, that was another thing, there was only one of them that had the weight arm on it...

Well I sent out an email to music hall to see if they would provide me a list of components with pricing.

I have a feeling the good guys store I went to last night are on their last leg and will have liquidators in the next week or so, just blowing stuff out. Will offer 150.00 or so, and then go from there, if they have the SACD/CD player I will see if I can get it for 350.00.......

From what I can gather all the stuff they are selling even in their sad state is still covered by the manufacturer.....

I just remembered reading on Audiogon that Music Hall was going out of business or had filed for bankruptcy protection, however I did not confirm that. Do you have any info on that?

Interesting, no I don't have any info, but I have seen some pro-ject TT's that look exactly like the Music Hall, perhaps MH is working to merge or become pro-ject?

I figure if I can get a working TT it wouldn't need to much maint. I have had the same Sony for about 20 years and it still spins at 33 and some change.....

Edit: a quick google search came up with nothing on the ch 11, nothing on their website either....

For anyone interested in new Music Hall gear I would heavily recommend Quest for Sound near Philly, PA. First time I dealt with them was on my MMF-7 and most recently I purchased my Tube integrated their. Stephen (owner) is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help. Also he has always sold well below list price to me, and has really reasonable shipping.
