Oh man, I tell you this has gone WAYYYYYYYYYYYY overboard now!

Besides all the suspension stuff and mild engine mods I posted a few weeks back, it has now grown to include these:

Cold air induction
75mm mass air meter
70mm throttlebody
24lb injectors
Trick Flow upper/lower intake
Trick Flow twisted wedge heads w/crane roller rockers
Pistons and rings
Headers
H-Pipe w/hi flow cats
Centerforce clutch
3.55/1 gears

Don't expect pics anytime soon. This project is going to take atleast several months to complete, and that includes the new paint.

Sounds good John, spend the $30 a pop and get the before and after dyno's and let us have a look-see......

You got an estimate at what you will be looking at, at the rear wheels?

Right now I'm in the area of 225 HP with the mufflers and cold air already on. Afterwards, it should be close to 320-330 HP. With the suspension and gear upgrades taking place also, this beast will take off like a missile!

I've been debating on the before and after dyno tests. I still have several weeks to decide.

Stay tuned....this is getting very interesting!

I'm with RuSsMaN on this. I rode a bike for years. I was never seriously injured (close calls though) but many of my friends started getting hurt (most of the time through no fault of their own). I had a buddy who was sitting still in a parking lot and got hit from the side by a car going no more than 15 mph. 15 operations later the limp is almost gone but the pain never will go away. An accident on a bike is always more serious than a similar one in a car. I finally quit and sold the bike when a semi cut me off and I had to drop the bike and the trailer came within inches of running over me. I'll take a cage thank you very much!

It's all about weight. Every 15 pounds you get rid of gives you a 1 HP gain. (not to mention greater handling) Trash the power seats, power windows and power anything. Pull out that old heavy carpet heat padding. I hear the hollow tube anti-sway bars make quite a weight and handling difference in Mustangs and Camaro's. A high torque low weight starter and aluminum water pump won't hurt either. Oh yea, spare tires are for old ladies.

We'll talk....soon. When it's finished, perhaps an afternoon lunch is in order. Heck, maybe we'll let Micah and that whatever-you-call-it he drives come along.

It'll be a few months at best until it's ready for action.

And then Subaru will have the STi, and the EVO VII will get spanked. The EVO is also a tad bit heavier than the WRXs IIRC, and well, it's a Mitsubushi which I don't care for much.

Also, the EVO is going to be like 32K, while the current WRX is 24K; big price difference.

    Btw, I drive a WRX Wagon :)

True, but the WRX STi will only have around 260hp. The Evo will have 272 (or whatever the Japanese HP limit is), but in reality it's supposed to have 290hp+.

I heard it was supposed to start at $30k, which is exactly what the WRX STi is supposed to go for. Still, the Evo VII is a freakin' ugly car. I saw some mockups for the Evo VIII, and it looks much better.

The EVO will be watered down, just like any performance car that comes to the US.

Mine dyno'd at 191hp/193tq, so it's getting up there. I put some intercooler hoses on the other day, so that added a couple ponies :)

You guys go right ahead and pay the 30-35 grand for those new cars.

I paid a little over 15 grand for my 93 LX Mustang back in late 93. With the almost 7 grand going into it, I would say thats the best bang for the buck of them all!

On a side note, I went to a car show today. This guy had a 92 LX Mustang with about 25 grand into it. Serious custom paint, new suspension and the whole nine yards under the hood. Vortech supercharged and everything to go with it. He didn't even bother with the catalytic convertors. Just long tube headers down to Flowmasters and out of 3" chrome tips. He goes every month to the emissions testing station and pays his $14.00 to fail it. It's his weekend toy anyway.

Yeah, the Fast and Furious kids were out in full force too. They were starting up and revving the engine, but when Mr. Supercharged Mustang started his up....no contest. I'm sorry, those rice burners just don't have the sound. I know they're fast, but you have to sound badass too!!!

I'd say it's really too early to say which is right. But if I had to guess, I'd say the STi will probably be around 260hp (good estimate) and the Evo will be about the same. There is no way they will bring the best over first. I mean, if they do, I'll be first in line for a test drive. But we'll see.

I plan on getting a chip once the STi's come out. I mean, it's fast enough for me for right now, but when the STi's come over, I want to at least be able to hang -- if not distroy!

John: I like Frederick. We'll go there.

The chip will not work. The STi has VVT which our cars do not have.

You have the Unichip option, AEM, or the Prodrive. I recommend the Prodrive as it is a complete ECU replacement.

Well being from Maryland, I want to explore the TurboXS solution (I think). Complete bolt on for the chip without cutting or replacing the ECU, uppipe, downpipe, manual boost controller, and exhaust. Good for 70+ hp, should take me up to around 300hp, 220hp at the wheels (stock WRX wheel hp is around 165hp I think).

I don't know, I feel like i should mix and match components for the best price and then get my Unichip mapped somewhere (like TurboXS). It would be cool to get a dyno, but I hear they are backed up till September.

What have you done to your car thus far, any performance upgrades?

You might actually want to look into Shiv's Stage 0 Kit (Vishnu Performance). I wouldn't go with the underdrive pully, as I don't like the idea of messing with my A/C (being in TX ;)). The newest issue of Sport Compact Car gained like 40hp at the wheels with his kit. They also did a pretty good exhaust checkout.

I've done motor/tranny mounts, Samco IC hoses, Cusco 22mm Adj. rear sway, Kartboy rear sway solid droplinks. Sitting on my floor is a Cusco 21mm front sway, and in the mail is Kartboy solid droplink inserts for the front sway (wagon only baby!!) and Stoptech Stainless steel brakelines.

I dyno'd at 191hp/193tq with just the motor and tranny mounts :) That was at Cobb Tuning's dyno.

I am going with the "reinforcement of stock parts before adding power" method. I am also more worried about staying in the STX class for Autocross which doesn't allow me to do too many power mods.

Plus, I am bling bling with my 18" P1s in Anthracite :) Looking at getting the BFGoodrich KDW-2 tires too.

    www.tirerack.com

Best Tire Prices, always (pretty much). If you have a Discount Tire around your pad, they will match the price of TireRack.

They are $161 a pop for the 18", so more than likely 115 or so for the stock size. Tires can make or break a car, trust me :)

Pauls Used Tires in MD. At the airpark close Gaithersburg.
When I shredded one of my new $350 Goodyears on my camaro a few years ago I found this place hoping to get something good enough to limp around on until I could find a new one on sale. I walked out of there with two brand new ones (ok, maybe they had a few thousand miles on them) for $40 each plus $5 mounting and balancing! They have a stock of tires you would not believe. I guess mostly from wrecked cars.

Tirerack is definitely the place to get tires. My new Dunlop Sport 5000 225/50/16 ran $110.00 a piece. Excellant tires! I love them!

Justin: I may be going to Frederick this coming Saturday with some friends. I'm not running mine, but a friend is. I do believe his nitrous powered Mustang is hitting low 11's.

When mine is complete, or I should say finished with this round of mods, I'll be running it. Everyone knows that cars are just like audio systems....they're never complete! You always find something to tweak or add-on.

John: Uh oh, I'm not so sure I can hang any more, my car is in the measly 14's. But you are right, I'll never be done tweaking and getting stuff for my car -- it's a hobby!

Let me correct that Justin...it's an addiction! But MAN OH MAN, WHAT AN ADDICTION!!! I don't care if it's rice burners or american muscle, it's all just flat out fun the american way!!! The chicks dig it too. At this car show last Saturday, good lord the chicks were out and dressed to kill! It was 2 shows in one. I'm looking forward to putting mine in one of these local shows just to have the babes come around. Yep, put a muscle car in a show, and they flock to it!
