My good friend, Kelley, has been going through a lot lately with her husband who was suddenly diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma with small cell variant CNS disease in leukemic phase. It's one of 6 cases every recorded in the world. It was a shock to us all, and it's especially tragic give his age of just 29. They have 2 beautiful children, Kya & Aidan, so this is an especially trying time for them all. I received an email this morning with the following update, and it was very hard to read given how close we all are.
* Edward went through alot yesterday. Sometimes his situation was changing from minute to minute. As you can imagine, it was a very emotional and somewhat confusing time for the family and all of you, our friends. Obviously, this created lots of potential for miscommunication and misunderstanding. Here's the situation...
* Ed is still in ICU, Ward 6D, in a chemically induced coma. The sedation drugs are keeping him free from pain and anxiety. We thank the Lord for the wonderful grace of these means of minimizing his suffering.
* Yesterday Ed's oxygen saturation level dropped dangerously during a CT scan, and it took a few hours to bring it back up. The doctors are certain that his brain is still functioning, but the question of brain damage cannot be answered presently. Sometimes this happens and people are OK.
* Ed's vital signs stablized during the night and have remained very good. His oxygen level is good, his heart rate is excellent, his fever is down, and his blood pressure is fair. Of course, any or all of these could change in the time it takes to read this sentence.
* The doctors reminded the family that these improvements are relatively small in the big picture and that Ed's longterm prognosis is still extremely poor.
* Though Ed's immediate family had decided to take him off the ventilator in light of his condition, his improvements have given them new hope! He is going to begin another chemo treatment today, but his situation is still moment by moment.
* Ed's family is convinced that rest is critical right now, and so they desire to limit visits and maintain some guidelines for visitors.
Please send prayers if you can. I appreciate it.

Funny thing happened about 3 weeks ago.
If any of you are hockey fans you may remember John MaCauley as a referee. John lived in Brampton and his Aunt & Uncle are/were (a few members not here now) my parents best friends. My mother and John's Aunt went to school together and their friendship carried on for may years, even to this day. Anyway, John's Uncle went into the hospital 3 weeks ago with heart problems (he had a quad about 10 years ago). The family was called as the medical staff indicated that he would not live more than a couple of days. He was in bad shape and the doctors induced a comatic state to help slow things down. My mother called and indicated that Bill probably only had a few days left. I have known these people for years and they have always been like family. I started praying many times per day for Bill asking that he would be given a second chance. I called my mother last week and again today and Bill is coming home tomorrow. The doctors cannot explain it. They are mystified.
My prayers go out to your friend.Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

Thanks for all the prayers. I know how much they appreciate it. Haven't heard anything new lately, but I'm hoping for the best. This is a really good man, and the world needs more people like him. Still praying for a miracle. It's just mystifying how this happens to someone just completely out of the blue. They stay home sick from work because they're running a fever. Next thing you know they're admitted to the hospital and fighting for their lives. This whole situation really knocked me down a few notches and made me take a look at a few things. In the end I'm most saddened for the 5 year old girl and 7 year old boy who have a father that's going through all this, and who's situation looks grim. I'm going to do whatever I can to help all of them involved and continue praying for a miracle.

Ed passed away this evening at around 4:45 PM in the hospital with his wife and family by his side.
Ed had a bone marrow transplant about a month ago, but in the end couldn't overcome this fight here on Earth. This was one heck of a great man, and the world is a darker place now that he's gone.
I feel so bad for his 2 children, and of course my friend, Kelley. They've got a lot of love and a lot of support, and this is one heck of a strong woman.
If anyone is interested in sending any thoughts to the family, please PM me, but I'd rather not post their personal info here.
Thanks again for the prayers. -

Thanks you guys, Club Polk is the best. I know the family appreciates it. This is taking a long time to sink in just due to the age and the fact this guy was in perfect health before all of this came upon him.
