I 've got a 60'' sony LCD RPTV and for the second time in about 6 months this damn thing is starting to get dark spots all over it again, I've already had it serviced once and the guy that fixed said that the problem was caused by dust and dirt getting sucked in by the fan and settling on the lens. It dosn't seem like its that hard to fix but the whole thing has to be unhooked and loaded up and shipped about 40 mi north of here and completly torn apart and cleaned an then put back together and shipped back etc.... anyway the whole process takes about a week mean while I'm stuck watching the the little 15 incher in the kitchen. so while the problem dosn' t really affect any one else in the house it still bothers the heck out of me so what what would guys do??
A. live with the spots andjust deal with it.
B. Ship the whole thing off and have it fixed, AGAIN !!

get in touch with Sony.. and see what solutions they recommend... something like that may even be covered by some type of recall. doubtful, since it's Sony. but you never know.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Fashion some sort of external filter, that way your not voiding anything +1 on Danger_boy's suggestion as well, I'm sure alot of people may be having the same issue.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

That is really frustrating. I was in the same situation with my Mitsubishi. I actually helped the tech fix it (in-home service). Much of the problem is trying to get the dust out of the air. You almost have to have a clean room enviroment. Otherwise it just floats around inside the tv and eventually settles on the mirror and lens again.
That being said...are you certain that it is being drawn into the tv by the fans? I feared that was the problem with mine, but now i'm reasonably sure it was just dust trapped in the set from manufacturing. Myself and the tech worked extra hard to get as much of the dust out of the air inside the set as possible. So far I have not seen any more spots developing. You might just ask the service center to take extra care in cleaning ALL of the inside this time. I could see where a tech might think it would be as simple as dusting the lens and mirror, and not take into consideration the other dust in there just waiting to fall on them.
Hope all goes well with the repairs!

So this may be your LAST Sony then?
Sorry you're having trouble with your set.. see what can be done to prevent if from happening again. like filters or something like that. that will let the heat escape, but still block out the dust.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
