This is the successor to the famed 3960.
They have them at Best Buy for $49. I was in there the other day and figured why not give it a shot, so I picked one up. I already have a 3960, but it's not modded, so decided to do a side-by-side compare. I can't hear a difference - not at all - and I tried for over an hour, and already know the sound of my 3960 very well.
The 3960 seems to feel a little more solid in my hands than the newer 3980, but I can't put my finger on why.
I'll definitely be hanging on to it - just thought I'd mention this for anyone who may be looking out for the 3960...
Anyone know of any non electrical mods for either machine - something simple like adding dynamat?
