I almost bought the movie yesterday, but decided to rent it first. I am glad I did, it's a touchy and inspiring movie. But, a definite one time viewing category.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

This film has absolute zero appeal to me, doubt I'll ever even rent it.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

"This has been a Cinderella season for the Indianapolis Colts."

That's the context in which it's meant. Anywho...yeah, this movie was fantastic.

I, personally, loved the movie. It will be in my collection forever.

It is not an action flick, but based on a true story about the struggles during the depression. The way it was cast was perfect, along with the incredible filming. Crowe did an outstanding job, despite the fact that i don't really like him at all! If you haven't seen this masterpiece, SEE it. It's not for the tough guys tho, 'cause i got that lump in my throat several times. It's a heart moving film that pulled you into the story.

One of the best drama's of the year!

Better than average, I like these kind of life stories and boxing to boot. I rented it but will likely buy it down the road.

haven't seen it but want to.

Anyone noticed that this film has been entirely overlooked for the Oscar race?
That could come back to haunt the other contenders.

I got this for Christmas but didn't have time to watch it until last night. I thought it was a great movie. Not a flashy, loud, CGI driven movie which, in my opinion, is a good thing. A keeper.

I think it's more of an issue of it being overlooked by audiences since they had to release it twice this year (plus box office $$ it was expected to make). It's gotten it's praise from the critics and has snagged a few nominations for the Golden Globes. It could go either way for the Oscars.

There were a number of reasons possible this flick hasn't gotten the spotlight they say it deserves- shouldn't of been a summer release; Russell Crowe's bad press; bad title for certain target audiences; formulaic (from what I heard); Million Dollar Baby still fresh in people's minds,...etc.

Personally I haven't seen it. I will come around to and try to watch with an open mind.

    Rich64,

I'm will you pal on this one. I thought Cinderella Man was just ok. nothing great. nothing new that's for sure. I didn't hate it.. just thought it was slightly above average.

    (spoiler)

I'm just tired of every movie having any kind of a sports theme or angle to it.. whereby the "underdog" always raises to the fight.. and wins! Underdogs don't always win... the world title.

The guy hadn't trained in who knows how long.. and in his first fight back in the ring, he wins. Ok. maybe.. but boxers are pretty well trained athletes. Then the guy wins the wordl boxing title.. there again.. even though this is a true story.. Hollywood LOVES to make these feel good movies with sports themes.. it's an easy sell of a movie, when the underdog wins in the end.

Name nearly any sports themed movie.. and tell me that the underdog in the movie doesn't win in the end and have it be a good well done movie.

That's where Million Dollar Baby comes in... the "underdog" didn't win in the end. I found this to be more true to life. Million Dollar Baby to me still reigns supreme in the ring. I love this movie.. I can't watch it to often.. becasue it's emotionally draining.. but damn, it's good.

But Cinderella Man was a true story. The inspiring stories out there, for the most part, are about underdogs winning. Who wants to see a movie (with rare exception, ie Million Dollar Baby) where the underdog... loses? THat's not a story, that's the status quo.

That being said, t here's examples of good stories where the underdog / main "character" doesn't win - Friday Night Lights, the first Rocky, Million Dollar Baby, Bad News Bears... those are just off the top of my head.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Wrong, that was a big point in the movie where his manager sold all his stuff so he could train.

Just watched it last night with the wife and kids.
    We all loved it.
It is a slow (read not action packed) movie that can keep your attention.
The fact that it was a true story just mad it better for me.
I also like the fact that it takes place during the depression. Most of us have no idea how hard it really was for people then. The soup lines, eating a piece of baloney for dinner with no seconds and watered down milk; those were hard times for everyone.
I am glad I bought it and I am sure it will be watched again.
