Sub upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade my Polk GNX104 10" sub to something that will sound better and handle more power. I've got an Alpine MRP 350 amp, which gives me about 200/w into 4 ohms for the Polk sub. I'd like to uprade to something that will enable me to run the amp at 2 ohms, which would allow for the Alpine's full 350/w potential. So far, the best option I've found for my price range is the JL Audio 10w3v2.
Anyone know of a better option for less than $200?

well, here is a polk mm2104 for a mere $120 + shipping, dual-4 coils, and should be able to handle that alpine... here is the 12 inch version, for $20 more...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Type R maybe? I'd would certainly be an upgrade, for under $200.
There is also the option of an Elemental Designs Kv210" Pioneer TS-255C, ported tuned to 38hz with 25in^2 port area.
Run off Profile CA1200 (900w@4ohm)this would create a "sledge hammer" effect and a terrible localization of bass. lets say we downfire the sub... not only would it be localized, but the reflected bass waves would shoot right back at the cone and probably cancel out a lot of the sound... whereas the conical "normal" sub would allow these waves to bounce all around. -
ah, the cursiest of curses! reccing eD here isn't the best idea ... not that i've ever heard one, but you'll take flak just for mentioning the name...
and i'd call the type-r more spl, and the momo more sq, if you had to choose to lean one way or the other...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

The R has more than enough SQ for his needs.
Any reason to stick with a 10"?
Damn might as well get an eD Ov2 ($175 shipped) :cool:10" Pioneer TS-255C, ported tuned to 38hz with 25in^2 port area.

Another VERY good choice is an Image Dynamics IDQ. :cool:10" Pioneer TS-255C, ported tuned to 38hz with 25in^2 port area.

all excellent options... have a listen to as many as you can and choose the one you like best...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Thanks for all the help, guys. I'd love to get the MM2104, but I need a 2ohm DVC for compatability w/my amp (looks like the MOMO is a dual 4ohm). I'm mostly looking for SQ, though it'd be nice to take the SPL up a few notches as well. Would also like to stay w/a 10" -- I've tried 12s in the past and just prefer the tightness of a 10" spkr.
Any opinions on the JL 10w3v2? Would the Apline Type R, or a different sub, sound better?Pioneer 880PRS

You'll love the 12" IDQ

Alright now, back from Bolivia .
Totally agree with this one . Can move a decent amount of air, and stay very clean doing it.
Arc Audio's ARC Series subs are also a good bang for the buck. I read a good review on the 12" version. Here is a link to a review by Eric Holdaway, it is in pdf format http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/pdf/sub_reviewfi.pdfAlpine: CDA-7949

i heard the prototype version of those in a 15, sounded great, shouldve been louder with the power going to it and the box they were in though...IMO
