Polk LSi9 vs Polk LSi15
Whats the difference in driver implementation between the two? Is it that the LSi15 use both 5.25 drivers solely for midrange and the 8"-er for bass purposes while the 9s use the bottom 5.25 for midrange and the top for bass?
Also, those who have heard both, which do you prefer?

Close enough, but the bottom one is for bass on the 9s.
I prefer the LSi9s as long as you have a sub.Outlaw M200s

I could be wrong, but I would imagine the 15's simply have more bass, and have the same crossover implementation as the 9's for the top half. Seeming as how the woofer has its own amp, that would make the most sense to me.
I can't speak from experience with the 15's, as I've only heard the 9's, which I loved, but I'm personally not a fan of ANY tower speaker with a built in amplified sub. I just have never heard one I think blended well. In my humble opinion, I think the 9's with a good sub would make for a better setup, but of course your ears are the final decision maker.Current System:

Youre thinking of the LSi25s. The LSi15s are passive, but they put out plenty of bass.Outlaw M200s

My mistake, I thought they were both amplified, only the 15's have a smaller driver.Current System:

The crossover points for even the 5.25" are different on the Lsi15's. Here's a comparison...

CROSSOVER FREQUENCY:
150Hz, 800Hz, 2.4k
CROSSOVER SLOPE:
woofer: 2nd Order LP
driver: 1st Order HP, 2nd Order LP, cascaded
tweeter: 3rd Order HP

After hearing the LSi9's, I'd say that if you have the juice and the space, get the 15's. That said, couple the 9's to a good sub with high-pass x-over's on the outputs and I'd be all smiles, save the for the lack of SDA.

Never heard the 9s but have the 15s and the 7s. FWIW, besides the obvious bass difference, 15s are more laid back and airy...7s are more forward. 15s go plenty deep for music and is seamlessly integrated BUT, the woofer requires an iron fisted grip to drive properly. I would bet that most people will like the 7s since it sounds IMO, more like a refined conventional speaker. 15s will likely generate more of a love/hate response or relationship....with some recordings and equipment, it sounds simply awesome...while with other recordings and equipment, it sounds like crap!System 1: Martin Logan Vantage, Rotel RC 1070, B&K Reference 200.2, Music Hall DAC 15.2, Yamaha 2300

If you are in the market for LSi 15's, I'm going to be selling my pair (locally)
very soon at a good price. Perhaps you would like to hear what they sound like?
I'm sure we could arrange a meeting either here in my very small listening room, or
perhaps at SCompRacer's place. He's a bit farther out, but has a beast of
a greatroom and a wall of sound there. We both have the same amp and soon
preamp, so the main sonic differences would be in the room size. These LSi 15's
have about 100-150 hours on them and sound great! (just not good enough
for me in my acoustically challenged room. My Carver AL III's sound superb and
I've fallen in love with the ribbon sound and don't need both. -
Dibs (after Joey and depending on your version of a good price of course).
PM me your info on the 15's.

Michael,
I sent him an email yesterday.... so I'll wait as to what he says.
However, seeing as you want these so much, I feel bad stepping in between. 99.9% of me says that you deserve these speakers. .1% of me wants to know if these are a possibility for me.
I'll let you know for sure by tonight.
I'll send him another pm to speed things up.
BTW, it's a real real real nice gesture to let me have initial dibs, I've never seen this nice-ness before in any forum. Either way it turns out, you're a great guy.

Sorry for the delay! Busy day at the office this afternoon followed by 2+ hour drive home in the snew. I can think of lots better ways to spend time

Slightly off topic, I was looking for stands for my lsi 9's. As you all are well aware of they are deep speakers, about 15" or so. The stand I am looking at has a top plate of 6 1/2" wide by 8" deep and this is the largest top plate I have seen. I was told by the person at racks and stands that there is also an adhesive tape of some kind included which assists in holding the speaker to the top plate, I hope that this would not damage the finish! The stand is a VTI UF and looks to be quite sturdy. What do you all recommend filling the stand with, sand or something else ???? Any feedback would be appreciated...The greatest enemy of truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, contrived and dishonest - but the myth - persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

They won't fit in my car as they are so could I saw them in half and then say glue them back together upon arrival? -
I want your 15s.... but I'll let Mike have this one. Seems like he really really wants the 15s.
