Anybody ever heard of Chris Isaak? I just heard one of his songs on TV, and I think I really liked it. Some of his albums notably better than his others?

    Yeah, I'm a fan.

My favs are Speak of the Devil, Heart Shaped World, and Forever Blue in that order.

PBS did a Soundstage concert from him that I wish would come out on DVD.

Ditto for Heart Shaped World and Forever Blue (best cut on FB is "Somebody's Crying").

Thanks for the info, folks. I'll have to add some of his albums to my Christmas music list.

"The Baja Sessions" isn't his most popular work but it is good. However, out of all his albums, "The Baja Sessions" is, IMO, the best produced album. It's a great album for SDA's too.

If you want to get an example of his earliest work, "San Francisco Days" is a good one to grab too. His first album was self-titled, realeased in '87 then there was "Heart Shaped World" in '89. Both were critically acclaimed. Album 3 "Silvertone" was released in '90 and bombed comparativly. In '93 was "San Francisco Days" where he went back to a style that worked well in "Heart Shaped World". "Forever Blue" came along in '95 and "Somebody's Crying" reached the top 40. In '96 he had "The Baja Sessions" and shortly thereafter in '97 he released "Wicked Game". That was kind of a greatest hits album but I think that was when he did the video for teh "Wicked Games" track and that video hit the top 10 on MTV and VH1 until it got banned for being too racy or something silly. I think HBO then gave him his own show which bordered on soft-core ****. In '98 he released "Speak of the Devil" which was the last time I saw anything mentioned. He has more albums after that with new album releases in '00, '02 and '04 with re-releases in '98, '99, '00 and '05. It seems his most recent release is a Christmas Album in '05. I heard he has a new album in the works but he's currently touring from what his website says. I think his cable TV show was picked up for another season again so that is probably where alot of his efforts are going.

Thanks for all the information! I think I'm going to go with "The Baja Sessions", though I'm not 100% sure yet.

    Thanks, folks!

If I were going to get only ONE Chris Isaak album, it would be "Heart Shaped World". "The Baja Sessions" is pretty good but HSW is his definitive album IMO.

shack is right, Heart Shaped World is what broke him into the mainstream. It's arguably his best work. His most popular is easily Forever Blue but HSW is his defining album. The Baja Sessions is his best produced album, an excellent recording worthy of the all important testing album status.

Ok. Then "Heart Shaped World" is now the one on my list. However, I'll listen to some of the songs on B&N.com to make the final decision.

    Thanks all for the advice!

Ditto Heart Shaped World, Wicked Game is a GREAT song. Also has a very interesting version of Heart Full of Soul (one of my ALLTIME favs) from one of his albums that I have but can't remember which one.

    Jstas,

Nice call on Baja, I have forever Blue and HSW, but I love Baja due to it's simplicity, but just a great set of vocals. I really love his voice.
