I just saw this Friday. It's a beautiful looking film with wonderful sound. I can't wait to get this in my HT. Charlise is terrific as usual . The plot was a little confusing -especially if you are not at all familiar with the MTV cartoon series. Some of the imagery and scenes left me scratching my head but explanations were given to resolve the itching.

I found some of it to drag a little bit but the action scenes I think were pretty well done. Even Theron's voice inflection was pretty spot on. Overall I think I would rate it a 6 or so on a ten scale. Anyone else see it yet? What did you think?

Is it going to be any good at all for those of us who have only the briefest introduction to the animated series?

    Just rented it. Out today.

Like wing said, amazing visuals, some cool specials, and I liked the "Idea" behind a lot of the action. Terrible acting, and even worse screen wright.

Overall worth the rent that's for sure. Might even buy it. Confusing at times, but not enough to get lost. Never knew there was an animation series, until I just read the above; I still enjoyed it too.

    I'd give it a 6.5 outta ten. Maybe a 7 if I was feeling generous :D

Went to the theater a few months ago with a few friends to watch something else that was sold out, so we watched this instead. I also had no idea there was an animated series until I read that here, but I didn't think it was confusing or hard to follow in the least. However, maybe I was just taking everything at face value.

As I recal, it was pretty neat. I wouldn't spend the money to buy it, but it was fun to watch. About 6 out of 10 is pretty accurate, imo.

Saw it at the movies, and picked up the DVD yesterday. Understood it a bit more after watching it again, and I agree with the 6 out 10 overall rating.

Picture quality was excellent. Sound is okay, but not one to add to the demo list.

I am going to purchase the animated series just to get a better feel for the whole concept.

I just got the DVD and will be watching it tonight ... since a lot of folks seem to say it is a little confusing, how about posting some background information about the movie/ plot so that we can understand the movie a little better?

From what I remember 1) it wasn't that confusing...you just have to watch it all to understand it, and 2) to tell any of the background would be to give something away.

I'll second that. If you pay attention for the entire movie, and don't turn the channel halfway thru, you should be fine. If you scratch your head during a scene or two, it's ok. You'll find out everything in the end.

I am a sucker for SciFi movies, I thought this one is not bad at all. I like the CGI, SQ is good, pretty clean transfer.

Chronicle of Riddick surpass this one by a couple points, but this one is definitely enjoyable to own.

Didn't care too much for the first Riddick movie, Pitch Black. Good backdrop on the new second one, if you haven't seen it. The second one is by far, my FAVORITE sci-fi flick! Love it! Speaking of which, I haven't played it with my new system set up all the way.. hmmm good reminder :) Thanks!

Mr. Nightly, to clarify, I was talking about the second Riddick. It's on perpetual re-run on HBO right now, and as I channel surfing it, it's always stop me a minute or two on it, even though I have the DVD.

speaking of SciFi, Alien vs. Predator (AVP) is another one. Yep, I am convinced now, I am a sucker for SciFi! :)

The first is called Pitch Black. It's a cult classic, you either love it or hate it. It did give some good background info, and developed the characters more. Terrible acting all the way around tho, which always turns me off. Worth a rental tho, if you enjoyed the second. Don't rent it expecting a Riddick anywhere near as good as the one with Necromongers.

Oh ya, Just watched it last night on the new system. VERY nice sound :D
