I noticed some of the forum members were using SACD's. I picked up a SACD/DVD-A player this week and was really dispointed in it's sound, I guess I was expecting something great after all the hype. I am using an old Kenwood VR 2090 home theater receiver that does not have the 5.1 analog inputs for multi-channel. I am only playing these disc in 2 channel, is the multi-channel really sound better? Is anyone else using 2 channel for this?

I purchased 3 discs, they will all play in 2 channel or 5.1
2 SACD-Hybrids ( The Persuasions- sing the Beatles and Pink Floyd- Dark side of the moon)
1 DVD-A ( Diana Krall -The look of love )

Just a thought, but perhaps to get all that hi-rez has to offer, one may need a higher level of gear. And yes, SACD in 2 channel is glorious.

How do you have your DVD player connected to your AVR? It MUST be an analog connection...not digital...to take advantage of the SACDs. You may also need to make sure that the AVR is set up to accept the analog stereo signal from the DVD player and make sure the DVD player is setup to play the stereo layer of the SACD.

Like F1 said, if may also depend on the quality of the rest of you gear. What DVD player and what speakers are you using?

The DSOTM disc is one of the few SACDs that I will listen to in M-C. For virtually everything else...2 channel only.

My experience is that it depends a lot on the recording. I have a Telarc hybrid one that sounds worse than their regular CD's. Other than that, you do need to look at the other bottle necks. They would probably be the speakers, then the receiver.

I only listen to my SACDs in 2 channel....on headphones. I don't have any expensive components in that system, just a Sony DVP-NS500V DVD/SACD/CD player, a Technics Pro-Logic receiver as headphone amp and a pair of Grado SR60 headphones. Like any format, there will be good sounding recordings and there will be some that sound horrible on SACD. On the whole, I've found SACD to be quite an improvement over regular CDs....some are obvious and some not so obvious.

My latest SACD purchase is The Police's Reggatta de Blanc....and it rocks!

I purchased a Pioneer elite DV 47a Sacd/ DVD-A last week on demo sale. I have been using it on my Kenwood VR 2090 with some MTM big Vifa kits from a place called Madisound. I have only been using the analog in's on my receiver, however this afternoon, my brother and I have been playing around with it on a semi-hi end system and I am pretty pleased with it now. I think my kenwood VR 2090 is just not a good match with the new format, I was really impressed by it on a different system.

    Thanks for your feedback
