at moderate volumes - YES
otherwise...no- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
What if I just hook up the center speaker to the reciever, and use seperates for the rest. Would that allow me to turn the volume up considerably.Outlaw M200s

Id do it with the surrounds on the receiver.
The surrounds do mostly ambience - the center works the hardest in HT.
Mains and centers with seperate amps...
Surrounds on receiver would do the trick.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Sorry, I was not completely clear. I only have 2 mono amps for the left and right, I am going to have to leave the surronds out of the HT for now, but I would like to hook up the center speaker. Would you recommend against hooking the LSic to the reciever and just keep listening in stereo or do you think it would be ok to hook up the center.Outlaw M200s

Well its up to you...
I run a 2.1 HT with no issues what so ever - but I watch movies alone the majority of the time...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

A lot of the answer depends on specifically which LSi's your asking about running. If the answer is any of the towers, I'd say don't even try it. If you're talking the 9's, as Sid said moderate volumes only, and with the 7's, you might be ok, but you'll need a sub.
If you're asking about just 2 channel, you have a better chance of that working over doing a full surround setup because I think you'll be clipping your amp if you try to push a 5 or 6 channel LSi setup on that Yamaha......you need more current all the way around IMO.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
I bought my LSIs at Sound Advice last year and the sales guy said that my Onkyo receiver would have no problem...yeah...riiiigggghhhttttt. I have learned so much since then. Pretty much all of my upgrades were inspired by my LSI purchase. Let's just say that they ended up being very expensive.Sharp Elite 70

I personally did this for quite some time with no problem. I got a great deal on a new B&K Ref 50 and jumped on it, and my dealer let me have a in home trial with my Halo A23. I used my Yamaha HTR-5590 for center and surround duty, and the A23 for the fronts, did this for about a month and a half, never had any issues. I listen to movies generally around 80-85db, music more around 70.

Thanks Gaara, I will do it that way for a couple of months. I hate to see my whole setup just sitting there.Outlaw M200s
