You don't show your location. Are these the ones your referring to by chance? Price is too high.

Yeah, too high. He's had those listed off and on for quite awhile. I bought some Dahlquist speakers from him. The price was more in line for those. I would have bought the Polks a long time ago but wouldn't budge on the price at the time. Maybe after trying to sell them for so long he'll budge. You can always make an offer.

If you can get them for a fair price more power to you and good luck. I'd sure like to have them myself but I have too many speakers at the moment. If that's possible.

It's been at least a couple months since I bought the Dahlquists from him. Maybe he'll budge now. Good luck.

    $800 vs/ $1,200? That's a laugh.

2.3s =$2,200 MSRP. 2.3tls =$2,500 MSRP. Equals 13.64% difference. So now the tls are worth 50% more than the non-tls? With a standing recommondation to replace the tweets in either model at this point in history and not to mention the age of the caps. Now that's what I call fuzzy math.

Your money and your call. He was firm at $1,200 a couple months ago. You might take into consideration what else you can do with a grand for speakers. Can you do better? Those speakers are pretty sparse so it may be awhile before you get another crack at them and they may or may not go for less. Depends on how bad you want them.

He's too high, tell him to F off, they aren't rare for gosh sakes. The fact that some folks want TL's instead of the non-TL version is beyond me, especially when a planned upgrade is in effect.

If someone finds a pair a non-TL's for steal, and they are normally below TL prices anyhow, buy them. I'm presuming that this individual will also have a brain.

The RD0194 tweeter upgrade alone brings them to a new level, and the specs are barely different. Are there better components in the TL? Who cares, as either model is vintage anyways, as in O L D. Is the crossover upgrade worth it? I don't know and I'm personally not concerned as long as the SOB is 100% operational.

If you want to upgrade the crossovers, knock yourself out, as there's excellent information to complete that project locally available on the forum.

You should buy Polk's regardless of the nomenclature, mint or near mint is the standard....anything less is just uncivilized.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Oh, and by the way so you don't take it wrong Jim, I wasn't blasting you for the price comparisons between the two models. Just using it as an example of how wild some people go when buying speakers when maybe they shouldn't.

I've seen this pair up for sale for nearly a year now.. sounds like he'll budge a few bucks on em. It does depend on how bad you want them. But like Steamer said, what other speakers in the $1000 price range can you get that would match those SDA's?

Sometimes i think us Polkies only want a rock bottom deal. nothing wrong with that of course. but those sellers NOT in club Polk don't always give a rats **** about those of us loyal Polk users. So they can set their own price.. you have to remember when these speakers were new they cost twice the price they're going for now. some XX years later.

If it were me... i'd try and offer him say $950 and see if he'll go for that. That way you get a so so deal, and he doesn't feel like he was completely raped by the deal. Offer him a free Starbucks espresso too. ;)

Oh yeah, welcome to Club Polk, James. I'm in Spokane.

There's a lot of fuzzy math when it comes to used audio gear, not just SDA's. Supply and demand plus perception will do that.

    You're right Jes.

Some people just seem to loose their heads sometimes over deals though. Some of the bidding that goes on in eBay alone blows my mind.

I think I will wait on it and see what happens. We are buying a new home and want to see how my rt 55 i handle for the mains with a new environment. But am in the market for somthing with a little more "attack" than what I have now. Also the wiring in this place is really bad as I metioned in another post and I do not know if my system is getting all the juice it needs to run at its potential.

The fact that he puts the price as firm, may indicate he knows he is a poor negotiater and that he believes for some reason this is a set point for price. Remember he was firm at 1200 then firm at 1000. It may also mean he really does not understand the speaker. His setup of these in the pic is lacking to say the least. I believe true SDA fanatics know bottom line what a speaker will bring and not limit themselves with a "firm" price. Arm yourself with the facts and find out. If they are NM, have boxes, brochures and so on, well that matters to me so I would pay more.

As with anything else their worth is based upon what an individual buyer will pay to a willing seller. I am also amazed at some of the prices I see on the bay when the bidders get emotional, I imagine the sellers absolutely love it though.
