Hello all...

Last year I bought a pair of CRS+ with the original stands and I finally set them up. Like many of us, when I was a kid I heard them at a dealer and loved them, but couldn't afford them!! I am using a McIntosh MC2205 Amp for power. I am assuming this is good power for these...

These are replacing a pair of Maggies and I must say the trademark "open and airy" Maggie Sound is very much present in theses CRS+'s

I am finding a little harshness in some of the highs and some vocals. I'm quite sure there is nothing wrong - just a charateristic I'd rather was not there. I understand there is an easy tweeter upgrade, what are is the improvement in?

Thanks all!

I upgraded my tweeters on the CRS+. The new tweeters are definitely worth the price to upgrade. Simple as that.

The replacement RD0194-1 tweeters will solve most, if not all, of the harshness problem caused by the 5dB spike at 13kHz of the SL2000's. Other worthwhile tweaks include crossover upgrades, mass loading the stands and upgrading the stock spikes.

    Thanks...

The stands have no spikes, but have a threaded mount. These are sitting on hardwood floors...any sugestions or sources?

I highly recommend Mye Sound spikes and floor protectors, http://www.myesound.com/products.html

Tell Grant you want the middle ones, 3/4" dia. with 1/4-20 threads. It may take awhile, but well worth the wait and his packing job is unreal.

Mass loading the stands with lead shot is also highly recommended. I'll warn you though, prying the plastic caps off the back of the stands is a real PITA. Also, there are two small holes under the bottom front bar that you will need to plug otherwise the shot will run out.

I debated over that, thinking that I wanted to couple the cabinets to the stands as well as possible, but I didn't want the cabinet bottoms getting scratched or sliding around. One thought was to bolt the cabinets to the stands using T-nuts and bolts, but I didn't like the idea of drilling holes in the bottoms. Another thought was to use felt strips on the tops of the stands, but thought that wouldn't prevent them from sliding around, so I decided on rubber feet mounted to the stand tops. http://safe.spsp.net/cgi-bin/debco/BS20.html
    I'm pleased with the results.

I've used that "trick" before. Good, low cost solution. I was also thinking anout this, and cutting it to fit...

That should work, but I'd check first to see if the Sorbothane sheet is tacky like their "Big Feet", which shouldn't be in contact with a finished wood surface.

This is an interesting coincidence. My first post a few months ago describes my new purchase of a pair of CRS+s and I also have replaced a pair of Maggies (1.5QR). I was not familiar with the Polks however and bought them solely on a whim (and cheap price). Boy am i glad i did, i lov em.
