200 dollar tires??? i had absolute top-of-the-line summer tires last summer (bfgoodrich g-force t/a kd - basically race tires with enough tread grooves to make them street-legal), and those only outed me a buck-sixty apiece!

Yeah, do you have size 265/70/17 tires and a 6000 pound truck? If you do I betcha youd have paid $200 each!

Even the cheap-o tires run $130. Leaning heavily to the Goodyear Fortera for $166.

well... does 205/50YR15 and 3200 pounds count? :p

i've actually replaced my wheels since then, and the 205/45WR17 tires on there now were $99 apiece and outperform the old ones overall :D... they're Avon Tyres, someone i took a bit of a risk on, but it's working out absolutely wonderfully so far... you may wish to look at them?

No, I dont chince on tires. I drive too much for crappy rubber. Im back and forth from Texas once or twice a year and countless trips to Ohio. My Michelins have performed well and I would buy them again but they dont soak up the bumps quite like I want them to so Im gonna try a smoother riding tire. The Cross Terrains are $190, the Alenza is $180 and the Fortera is $166 so thats what Ill go with more than likely.

BFG makes damn good off road tires. Great traction and bulletproof. However the 2 sets of BFG's Ive had over the years were anything but smooth riding.

Hmm. That's a lot for tires. I just got 4 Bridgestone Dueller H/T 235/75R15 for a grand total of $327. Maybe my dad's connections are playing a bigger role than I thought.

Notice the size? Its about half the size of my tires. You have to pay for the extra rubber from a 28" tire to a 33" tire.

Mine are like 28.8". I know the extra size would contribute to the price, but there's no way the extra rubber costs that much more!

Why? There's less rubber? Only reason I can think of is because it'd possibly have to have stiffer sidewalls because there's less rubber? No, that doesn't make sense.

    Why is that?

Well look up tires for a 20" wheel and the same tire for a 16" wheel. If I had to guess, and im pretty sure I'm right, its because the 15" wheel is the most common sized wheel driving prices down compared to a tire for a 16" wheel because theyre used less often. Just a theory, but look at prices, if you take the same tire, but ones for a 15" wheel and the other for a 16, the 15 is usually cheaper

    a) they're more expensive so tire companies can make more, because they know you'll still buy the tires (aka marketing)

    b) i think cody's right, the smaller wheels have been more common in the past (no longer, though, i think, so who knows how this'll change in three years)

    c) no, you don't need stiffer sidewalls with a larger wheel... that's half the point :p

mac - no, i did my homework, i just chose a great company that had a good reputation, but not well-known enough to have inflated prices... it was more of a risk than buying from bfgoodrich, but not by much, and i'd take on the equivalent bfg tire any day on any category (wet, dry, snow traction, treadwear, noise, etc.) and i think i'd win on most of them... lucky me :p

yea, 17s have been getting cheaper and cheaper, but 15 is still the predominant wheel size. But with all the new cars coming stock withs 17s and 20s, im sure the demand will rise enough to lower the price

no, apparently the extra letter in 'any' is too much to ask for, despite the fact that it makes sentences almost infinitely more readable... punctuation is just asking for trouble...

and breakin on the momo subs has generally been pretty long, about 50 hours for optimum results...
