Opinions on new RM speakers

Hi,

I have the following setup:

2 RTi70 fronts
1 CSi40 center
2 FXi30 surrounds
1 PB1-ISD SVS Sub

I like the look of the new RM speakers and am thinking about replacing by RTi setup with some combination of these new RM speakers. I am specifically interested in the RM302 for a center, the RM40T for mains, and either the RM201 or RM30 for surrounds. Does anyone have any opinions on this replacement? Am I crazy to be thinking about this kind of replacement? Would I be seriously downgrading my system by doing this? Any feedback, positive or negative would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

Obviously not many fans of the RM series here. My impression is that if you go with these you are buying them for the "look" and not because they are a better speaker than what you have. I'm sure the RM40T is a quality speaker but I'm not in favor of dropping down to 4½" drivers from 6½" drivers. Too much of a Sub/Sat feel to me.

It seems crazy to me that some of the new RM series speakers have a higher price than some RTi's. I like the looks of them, but I think I would like the sound from the RTi's better.

Yeah, it seems a bit crazy to me as well. I really do like the look though and maybe it's the aluminum cabinets that prices them higher than the RTi line. I was more curious as to whether anyone has seen and/or heard this new line.

I am in the same boat, I have RTi70's with CSi40 center, but am moving and the new house precludes use of the old speakers. I have thought I would go with the RM30 fronts with the nicer center, and then RM20 surrounds (three of them.) I am really very interested to know if people have demoed the RM30 system versus and RM20 system, as the RM20 setup I would do would be less than half the price of the RM30. I want to know if people can really hear a difference. But no one here really discusses them.

    Shawn,

If you send me your email address, I can forward you some feedback that I received from Ken Swauger, regarding the RM series speakers.

Hmmm, I don't know what you are inferring...

If I get rid of my supercharged V8 Mustang for a V6 Mustang, will the V6 Mustang be just as good?

Not at all patronizing, are ya? :p

I hear ya cluckin! In this case, my question isn't really how much worse are they going to be than my prior set up, but how different is the RM30 setup versus the RM20 setup.

I should post the question though, in another thread, about the benefits of a TC inwall system versus the RM30. Just seems like no one knows much about these on walls.

Bookshelves and towers are not a consideration for my application.

Can't help ya there, haven't heard the TC's. Just steal some LC's. I'm not a big fan of the RC's.*

*mine are completely free air on the back side, so not optimal install.

So I am guessing you have RC's with no inwall enclosure, and are not satisfied with them? But you have heard good things about the LC's? That might be an option for me, as it is new construction and I can have speaker wire pulled.

Get the LC's, or in you can't swing them, get the TC's. The TC's match the RTi series, the LC's match the LSi's.

Thank you, I am going to take this to another thread, RE different LC's and TC's.... with pictures of the room they are going in.
