How Would I Know If A Fuse Is Blow In My Amp??

I hope I can get some opinions.

I have a Pioneer Elite M-10X amp, 100w x 2. I have tried to connect it but get no sound. There is a power button on the front as well as a stand-by button. The unit powers up fine but produces no sound. The other issue is when I try to put the unit in stand-by mode it will not allow me to do this. The unit clicks when the stand-by button is pushed but the unit stays on. Finally, the red light in the middle of the face flashes.

Am I on the right track?? What should the blown fuse look like if in fact this is the problem??

Thanks for any help!!

When you look at the fuse "element" it will have a break in it, disconnecting the circuit.

Not trying to point out the obvious but, you do have your speakers (I assume the "mains") connected to the power amp and not the receiver, correct?

You power up the amp by means of an output trigger from the reciever right? If this is the case, it might not go into "standby" without the receiver being powered down...

Flashing light might mean "protection mode". Check your connections, make sure there are no shorts in the speaker wire, then check for glass fuses, otherwise its a service visit.

Edit: Just saw your other thread. Please stick to one thread when you are asking related questions to avoid replies with redundant info.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Hey steveinaz, yes the speakers are connected to the power amp. I had the amp connected via the trigger. I have to turn the amp on as there is a power button. From there, the amp did turn on with the receiver. When I shut the receiver off (stand-by), the amp did not go into stand-by.

Put it this way, when I power the amp on, not connected to anything, the red light flashes. When I push the separate stand-by button, the amp clicks but does not go into stand-by.

The speakers work fine when connected directly to the receiver, no sound when connected to the amp, amp connected the receiver via interconnects.

Hey billbillw, I checked the glass fuse, I could see it through the top of the amp. It is not discoloured and the wire that runs through the middle of it is still visible.

As for my speakers, the work fine when connected directly to my receiver and don't work when connected to the amp, the amp connected to the receiver via interconnects.

Put it this way, when I power the amp on, not connected to anything, the red light flashes. When I push the separate stand-by button, the amp clicks but does not go into stand-by.

    Looks like a service visit.

If there are any things lighting up, there's a large chance a fuse did not blow.

Sounds like something more serious...FYI though, sometimes fuses break near the end and they "appear" to be good by visual inspection, you need to pull them and check them for continuity or at least look closely near the ends to ensure the filament is not broken..

Have you tried the amp by itself with only a source connected and speakers?

Yes I have, the amp powers up but will not go into stand-by mode. The red light on the front panel still flashes.

I dropped it off at the local authorized Pioneer repair shop. Should know more next week.

That's what I am understanding. I had one guy reply that he had a H/K amp, it powered up with no sound. He advised that he had two bad fuses, replaced them and all is well.

How many fuses are normally in an amp, it probably varies. The M-10X is a 100w x 2 amp.
