7.1 speaker hook-up

I would like some information on a 7.1speaker hook-up. I am using in ceiling
LC80i's (4). My problem is that I can not locate the two rear speakers behind the listening position. They will be located directly above. The other two rear speakers(7.1option) are shown to be placed in front of the rear speakers. My question's are: Will I have a problem with the surround speakers being placed overhead?
How far forward should the 7.1 option speakers be placed, and should they be farther apart then the rear.
