Use of Y

Most of subwoofers have 2 rca inputs (left and right) and most of receivers have 1 mono rca output. In this scenario, usually we use a Y to connect 1 output to 2 inputs. My question is: Where do I have to put the Y? I mean, (option 1): run 1 single wire from receiver and use the Y near the sub or (option 2): put the Y near the receiver and run 2 wires to the sub. Which one is better? I think that most of you use option 1

Thanks in advanced
Bernardo

Hi Bernardo- Option #1 will allow you to use a better quality sub cable without the expense of 2 cables. Most subwoofers sum the Left and Right rca inputs to provide a mono signal to the internal amp. The main reason to use a Y-splitter at the sub is that it provides a stronger signal to turn the sub on and keep it on if you use the "Auto" feature.

If you're set on using a y splitter I'd put it at the sub end and just use a single sub cable. The only advantage to using a y splitter is that you'll get a 6 dB gain in the signal. Most subs have both left and right inputs for those who don't have a dedicated sub out but use stereo pre-outs. If you choose you can just get rid of the y cable all together.

The Y is a social outlet for teens and everyone alike to come and hold recreational activities outside of the home. From working out to art classes to skateboarding... the Y can provide it.

As for Y Splitters... they give a 3db gain on the signal. (connected to R&L INPUT)
