For the past year I have been on painkillers, due to having 2 more ruptured disks. I have been taking pills 3 times a day. In the past week, I have realized I am fed up with taking pills. I stopped cold turkey which I know I shouldn't have done, but I had to I couldn't and didn't want to take one more.
It has been 48hrs and I feel like ****. I went through the aches and pains yesterday. Today I have the , I feel hot then cold then hot then cold... and I am a bit on edge. I just want to know how long does withdrawal last, when can I start to feel somewhat "normal".

Thanks

Best of luck Willow, stay strong and fight. I cannot tell you or even guess as to how long it will last.

Thanks Ron, it certainly is not easy and I don't wish it on anyone esle. I never really thought my body would depend on a substance so much. I thought maybe I should just start up again and reduce the amount , but I think I am too far in the game now to do so.

cold-turkey stoppage is commendable. and it may be exactly what you need to fully become non-dependant. if you cut back doses, you may never fully quit.

I was on pain med for three degenerative disks and decided to do what you are doing and stop cold turkey. It's a **** but you can beat it. I was over the rough part in five days but damn it makes you think your dying. Hang in though and you will find out that you get your senses back.

Thanks , that means a lot knowing someone esle has done it. It does feel like the worst flu ever. It seems as though 5 days seems to be a "rule of thumb".

Sorry to go against pretty much everything that has been said thus far, but as a pharmacist I have to say you're going to have better results if you gradually taper down off the meds. PM me if you want to talk more about it.

As a general rule, I don't discuss personal health care on the internet. If you want to talk more though, let me know.

I was on vicadin for about a year after a bad broken leg. The problem is I probably didn't NEED them more than 6 months or so. After that it was just outa habbit.
When I quit it was about 5 days of real bad moods and some pain then just a couple more days of allways tired and wanting to sleep then I was back to normal. (if you can call me normal)

Now I only take them for fun. J/K

    I like my results.

    I am Drug Free

    How can they be better?

Besides I tried the taper down deal it didnt work.

It was like tapering off cigarettes that didnt work.

Willow believe a former drug addict - if you dont have but three days left, make it to the end.
