    AMC Cd8b, $199 or less online, I think $175 direct from AMChome.com......

Dual 24/96 Burr Brown Dac, single disc, full function remote....

As far as I'm concerned, thats probably the best bang-for-buck 'new' cd player out there.

I have also heard good things about the Cambridge Audio D-300, which uses Crystal Burr Brown 24/96 dacs, but comes in at $300. I think Audioadvisor.com has some info on them....

Here is a different approach. Find an older model with a very heavy duty build quality and find an outboard DAC to go with it. I've been thinking about doing it that way. Heavy duty or not, older models go cheap!

    Vinyl, the final frontier...

Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... :D

The only beef I have with older cd players, is the friggin' shipping. Every used player I have bought has arrived with one or more issues, if working at all. I just don't get it. The brothas I bought them from, I trust, so I know they left in good shape.

I did however buy my dvd player used, over ebay, shipped in original box with no issues....

I'm just weary of getting used, as far as cd players go, unless its local. (not that a new player can't get damaged, but I think your chances are better dealing with a company, vs an individual if something does go wrong)

    Cheers,

We discussed this topic a week or two ago with Juice. I don't have any first hand experience with any single-disc players under $1000. I would suggested taking a look at the Cambridge Audio D500-SE player. This player, and it's predecessor, have gotten good reviews from Stereophile (including being a recommend component, Class C). It's a pretty nice looking player that seems tough to beat for the money.
