older rt series
is anyone familiar with the older rt series speakers? I have front rt10 floors, rt5 surround and rt3 surround and sw100 sub and cs 250. Is the new rti series better? (thinking of upgrading). running off of yamaha htr 5840. would it be worth it? bought entire system in '95. thank you very much in advance.

You would mostly be getting a cosmetic upgrade and maybe... just maybe a slight sound increase...
But you have the famed 7.5" woofer from the RT7 and the famed tweeter on the RT5 - good set of mains. Up to you - go give em a listen.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Is the rt7 better than the rt10s? I don't have rt7. I have the rt5 in rear is that ok? never mind i just looked up the rt7. i think i have the better with the rt10 in front. is that correct listening wise?

Keep the speakers you already have. The only "upgrade" I would recommend would be the subwoofer. I really like that series of speakers. Like Sid said, you might get a little better, but your money would be better spent elsewhere.
The RT7 has the trilaminate dome tweeter, so it is in another category altogether.
Another suggestion would be to consider separate components, but I don't know how much of an improvement that would be for those speakers.

I have several pairs of the RT16's which were the big brother in that line you have (the 16's have 2 7.5" drivers) and even though they're not in current rotation, I can't see myself getting rid of them. That line has more deep end than the lines that have been out since, though I can't say I've ever heard the 10's.....comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

thank you very much for your opinions. I really like these speakers for their rich tones and deep sound. I just couldn't imagine anything sounding better for the money but if there was.....................

I regret selling my 16's...when I get a bigger home (more rooms), I'll get another set. A fine speaker, and budget pricing on the used market..

I remember the rt16 came out about a month or so it seemed after I bought the rt10. I remember it made me mad cause I thought I had the bad boy. I never heard the rt16. That would be an upgrade for my antiquated system that would sound compatable wouldn't it? Would those sound good with rt10 in the back? and rt5 on the back center?

I love my RT10's and use them as rear surrounds with Monitor 12's as mains. They would sound great paired with the RT16's.

is the rt16's cone made of the same "stuff" as the rt10's? in other words will it sound compatable? can I run them with them?

THey're from the same line, so you should have no problem blending them.comment comment comment comment. bitchy.
