speaker wire ends?

I willfully admit I know nothing about this stuff so I hope that you guys can help me. I picked up a DS7200 system at a yard sale for really cheap. It came with everything except speaker cable. I figure I'd just go online and buy some no problem as I am not brave enough to fab my own cables. I was wrong. What end plugs should I get? I didn't even realize that speaker wire had plugs for the ends I thought you just hooked the bare wire into the ports.

You will be fine just plugging the speaker wire into the terminals. You can pick up 14-16 gauge wire(preferrably 14) about anywhere-even Home Depot. Strip about 1/2 an inch of the insulation off(a wire stripping tool works good), and plug it into the receiver and speaker. You should be good to go then.

When you get into spades and banana plugs, there isn't much of an advantage other than convenience.

    Enjoy your new system.

    20 or 30 watts over 15 feet ... 18 gauge.
up to 100 wrms over 15 feet... 16 gauge.
    150 - 250 wrms over 15 feet... 14 gauge
    250 - 500 wrms over 15 feet... 12.

assumes a good quality stranded speaker cable.
