So, listen to this....

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who welcomed me and responded to my previous posts. I know some people are here to make a buck - I'm here to do some research and am an amateur novice audiophile. I recently purchased a Polk RM6005 speaker set from c.c. I needed to get mount style speakers and was on a limited budget. I researched them and listened to them. They serve my purposes and I got them (the kicker of the story) for $129.99. They were mismarked as an open box buy on display and were actually a new set sealed in the box. The manager told me he had to honor that price. I was ecstatic and have enjoyed them for about a month now. I find my receiver (yamaha rx-v595) having to be cranked up pretty high to get the same effect from my previous speakers and am now considering an amplifier or a 7.1 set-up (due to some of yur advice I've decided against a 6.1 set-up). What would you guys recommend?

I called Polk and asked if they sold seperate rm6005 speakers (they do not). But, they said the RM6751 is comparable and fits the specs and looks of the 6005's. Does anyone have experience with these speakers? If so, without telling me that I need to get a whole new set-up, what other speakers might work well?

Thanks again for all your help and I look forward to hearing your advice.
Shawn

Had a pair of cerwin vega d-3's and a pair of infinit studio monitor sw-115's. My center channel was a cerwin vega reference series.

yeah, that's why I was kind of surprised about the volume issue. I literally have to turn it up to 3.5 or 4 to get my idea of a "movie experience". Maybe I'm being nit-picky, but it's just something that I noticed. Could it be that the floor speakers were 3 way speakers and the polks are two way? Does it have something to do with the efficiency of the speaker? Or could it simply be a problem of the receiver?

I don't think adding another speaker will increase how loud it will be. The new polks may not be as efficient as your old ones.

Would you recommend getting a new receiver (more RMS power)?

Your new sats are not going to move as much air as your old ones.
In order to upgrade your receiver you would have to double the watts. You may be better off with and external amp, or I know you have a situation but new speakers.

I have no idea what my crossover is set at. Is there a particular external amp. that you'd recommend keeping in mind that I have a budget?

I don't know if your receiver can accept an external amp.
Are all your speakers plugged into your sub?

no, nust the right and left front speakers are plugged into the sub. I think I can accept an external amp. I will check when I get home today. Again. i'd really like to thank you for taking the time to help me out. It is refreshing to know that there are forums like this where people aren't belittled for asking questions (even though I have no idea what I am talking about sometimes). Do you know where I can find out where the crossover is set?

    Don't mention it.

I think mostly is has to do that your new speakers are not as effecient as your old ones.

I don't think your receiver has pre-outs for an external amp.

I wonder even if your new ones 6ohms and not 8?hmmm
