Chicken Pox in da house!!!

What a great way to start out my 14th wedding anniversary.
Got up to find out that my boys have Chicken Pox, even though they were innoculated. I guess they can still get it, it just won't be nearly as bad. Luckily the wife and I have already had it or we'd be quarantining the boys from us.

Oatmeal baths!! They work wonders when the kids start to itch. Benadril helps a bit too.
Look on the bright side, you can now play connect the dots and not have to use paper!!;) -
Happy Anniversary !!!!
On as side note...I am pretty sure I've not had it.....and was at your house last Friday...anyone knows what's the incubation time for this??? Hmmm......I'm sure now I'll start imagining dots everywhere_________________________________________________

You know- I never got it as a kid, even though everyone else at school did, my sister did, etc. Well, about two years ago, I started running high fever-- like 103, 104 degrees-- and I absolutely felt horrible. I didn't break-out for a while though. I went to the doctor twice with the fever and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Finally he said, "You've had chicken pox, right?" The next day there was no doubt! Miserable!
They say it's better to get them when you're a kid, and I wholeheartedly agree.
HTRookie- If I had seen your post before I typed mine, I wouldn't have! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't get polk-a-dotted.
And happy anniversary, ND! -
D'oh!!!
Happy Anniversary!! -
Confirmed from a good source (thanks mom )
I did have Chicken Pox; what I've not had is Measles, which they say is the worst to get as an adult....
I get so confused with these names in English..._________________________________________________

Um... aren't we required to get vaccines for the Measles? MMR, Measles Mumps Rubella. I'm pretty sure that's a relatively dead disease.
As for Chicken Pox, it's much better that you get it as a kid. The older you get, teh more dangerous it is - people have been known to die from it as an adult, wh ich is a pretty rare occurance for children. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
.
Edit- Didn't see the post about mom's confirmation. Great....I was hoping that you wouldn't end up with the"SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Here are some facts, my whole family got them except me. Early this year, my nephews had it. My wife had it. My wife went to play with the kids, 2 weeks later she broke out AGAIN. If you have them one you can get them again. from what I understand, it's a different strain. I still did not get them. So be careful you can still get them if you have had them.
-
didn't get 'em till i was 21. woke up one day and rubbed the back of my neck while stretching and felt what was thought to be some pimple or something. then one emerged on my chest. popped what was thought to be a pimple and it obviously scarred. it was the pox.

I got them twice. The first time at Christmas.... then two years later on Easter. They say if you don't get htem "strong enough" the first time your body doesn't build up a strong enough immunity. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Don't worry Noel, Chicken Pox doesn't last THAT long! Go grab yourself a coupel of bottles of Calamine lotion and a bag of cotton balls. It's more efficient if you soak a cotton ball and dab each little spot. The Calamine lotion will work as good as anything I've seen because it has the anti-histamines in it to stop itching and has a Cortizone like stuff that will take down swelling. It also dries out the spots and that helps them heal up faster.
They shouldn't scratch because it can spread they affected areas. Thier skin will not be very adversly affected but if they get it in a soft tissue area like eyes, ears, nose or mouth/throat, they will have a hospital visit for sure. Also, if they scratch to open wounds, they can get infected and then they are fighting two infections. Make sure they keep thier hands washed.
Chicken Pox can kill kids too. It depends on how resilient the strain is and how badly they get infected. Chicken Pox in adults can actually cause brain damage and leave a person partially paralyzed. If you get it as an adult, get to the doctor quick and make sure you stay on top of it.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Oh yeah, try to keep them away from other kids. Other parents might want thier kids to hang out with yours so they get the Chicken Pox too and get this whole business out of the way. If that is the case, charge 'em!
BTW, my wife's friend's husband has the Chicken Pox right now and he's a Type 1 diabetic. Talk about problems!Expert Moron Extraordinaire

as well as i'm sure you already know, don't let the kids scratch or pick at them. it causes scarring.

Well, that explains it then.
All joking aside, I was really sick. I actually felt a lot better after I broke out than I did for the 3-4 days before. After that it was merely unpleasant. Second the oatmeal baths and the Calamine.. -
Happy aniversary from me also.
I hope they do not spread through the internet.
After responding to this thread I am going to wash my hands.
I am starting to itch.

From Wikipedia
There are many explanations offered for the origin of the name chickenpox, from the idea the specks that appeared looked as though the skin was picked by chickens, to the idea the disease was named after chick peas, from a supposed resemblance of the seed to the lesions. The simplest explanation is probably offered by Samuel Johnson, that the disease was "no very great danger," thus a "chicken" version of the pox. As "pox" also means curse, in medieval times some believed it was a plague brought on to curse children by the use of black magic. Incidentally, during the medieval era, oatmeal was discovered to soothe the sores, and oatmeal baths are today still commonly given to relieve itching. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
