Receiver mode changes in hd

This is probably a new one, well here goes. Comcast cable HD into my Sunfire processor. While watching HD the discovery channel, I get mode changes from Dolby dig to pro logic. This makes a sound lapse. I had a new hd receiver hooked up today still the same. I contacted Sunfire, and they say it is from the source. Anybody dealing with this? Is there any way to cure? All other non HD stations are fine. Mostly discovery and network stations. Thanks in advance, Doug

I went through the same thing with adelphia cable. I do not remember what box it was but it was put out by Scientific Atlanta. Adelphia did acknowledge the problem. However they had no solution. It is the reason I gave up on HD, from Adelphia anyway.

Comcast will not acknowledge a problem on their end. Love the hd but those mode swings are annoying. Thanks guy

With the Networks, commercials are frequently in DD2.0, even when the program is in DD5.1, so you will see switches as commercials come on. Similar thing with Discovery, with the short subjects in between shows. You shouldn't get switching during the program itself, if you do, then something is wrong.

:) With my Onkyo TXSR702 I just use PLIIx Movie which handles all DD source modes, with no switching problems.

I contacted our cable company for the same issue, actually my screen sometimes goes black. for example if someone is thinking of something that happened in the past, my screen will black out. When we go from HD program to a commercial it does switch to PLII, not a big deal. The cable company told me to unplug my box and reset it. Oh yeah they also ask if I had everything plugged in properly. Well I did what they suggested regarding the reset of the box and of course it's all plugged properly, it's not rocket science.
We still get the screen black out once in a while. It happens lots on Discovery. I think I will go and swap the box this weekend.

Yes as I said comcast replaced box yesterday, still the same. One thing I did notice it happens more at night. Comcast of course will not confirm. I thought cables were the problem, all replaced and still the same. Hey thanks for the feedback, Doug

Yeah , I doubt the cable company will take the blame. I am actually going to cancel the extra HD package, I have not used it yet. I'll keep the free HD channels.

I have experienced the same problem with comcast. sometimes, the braodcast will go in and out of HD and in and out of Dolby Digital. I got a new HD tuner and it seemed to have fixed the problem in my area. The tech who brought the new receiver said that there wasa lot of activity with the cable company dropping new digital lines in the area recntly and it could have been the cause of the interruptions. It still happens on rare occassion, but definitely not as often. Not sure if he was blowing smoke or just wantedt o get out of the house for fear of more questions!!!!!
